Trash, Recycling, and Compost

The City of San Marcos-Solid Waste department conducted an audit on trash providers that multi-family residences use. We audited apartments, registered multifamily complexes and residences, senior living, and Greek houses located within the city limits. We determined that the trash providers being used throughout San Marcos are as follows: Allied Waste, Central Texas Refused, Progressive, Republic Services, Texas Disposal Systems, and Waste Management. All of recycling in San Marcos is serviced by Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) whether it be recycling carts or dumpsters.

The most common trash provider for apartment complexes in San Marcos are Republic Services, Central Texas Refuse, and Texas Disposal Systems. The most common trash provider for multifamily complexes and residences are Central Texas Refuge and Texas Disposal Systems. The four senior living complexes located within city limits utilize Republic Services, Texas Disposal Systems, and Waste Management. The fraternity and sorority houses use a variety of the trash providers. We did find out that one of the sorority houses is using Republic Services for their trash and recycling.

Central Texas Refuse seemed to be a top competitor with Texas Disposal System and one of the preferred companies. They had one of the highest number of complexes that utilized their service. They service most of central Texas including Austin, Round Rock, San Marcos, Plugerville, Cedar Park, and Lakeway. They were established in 1981 and service and are a residential and commercial provider. They are affiliate with Wilco Recycling, Cedar Park Disposal, and Round Rock Refuse.
