To validate self-collected snorted and spit saliva with routine nasopharyngeal swab in detecting SARS-CoV-19. Specific objectives include 1) to determine positive rates of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in saliva samples, 2) determine positive rates in NP Swab and 3) to determine agreement between results of saliva and NP swab.

The invention conceivably could be used to detect and produce antibodies that in turn would be useful as immunodiagnostic reagents to detect SARS-CoV-2 and/or protein antigens thereof in clinical and other biological (e.g., wildlife) samples and for passive immunization to protect against and even treat COVID-19. By the same token, the invention might also be useful in the production of vaccines for active immunization against COVID-19.  The Supportive, Palliative and Hospice Medicine (SPHM)Division of the Department, together with colleagues in palliative care, developed guidelines for the terminal care of seriously-illCOVID-19 patients. Together with colleagues in the Department of Medicine, they assisted in the development of a protocol for securing advanced directives from such patients. Throughout the pandemic, the SPHM division has been implementing the above protocols for all COVID-19 patients referred to the service.

  Lagundi is being proposed as an adjunctive treatment for patients with COVID-19 because of its anti-cough, ant i - inflammatory and p o s s i b l e a n t i S A R S - C O V- 2 properties, and hopefully hasten recovery.
