Correspondence Summary

The disclosed correspondence records from DOE fall into two major categories. The first and

most significant category is GA Power Correspondence, or correspondence between DOE, DOEs

outside contractors, or DOEs counsel and Georgia Power Company or Georgia Power Companys

counsel. These documents are arranged by the name of DOE employee to whom the email was

addressed and contain many redactions. DOE justified most of the withholdings under Exemption 5,

FOIAs interagency deliberation exemption. Nevertheless, this exemption does not apply to the

numerous communications to or from Georgia Power or its counsel. The second category of

correspondence consists of correspondence with the DOEs Office of General Counsel. The documents

were produced only in paper format and therefore are not posted on this website.
