Dr Nick Honhold is a veterinary epidemiologist and veterinarian with 30 years of experience, focusing on development projects since 1985 and spread over Europe, Africa, Latin America, Asia (central and south) and the CIS (former CMEA / COMECON). He is an excellent communicator and very adaptable, with experience of forming and working in multi-disciplinary teams in many areas of the world. He has proven supervisory and organisational skills in project direction, team leadership, research, teaching and training. The design, creation and maintenance of national livestock disease surveillance systems from animal health field reporting systems through to database systems has formed an integral part of his work. The structure and function of state veterinary services and privatisation of such activities have also been important activities. He has authored a paper on biosecurity and a manual on emergency preparedness for FAO and prepared a manual on compartmentalisation for an EU project. He has extensive practical and administrative experience in infectious disease control including outbreak investigation and biosecurity.
