NEWS AND PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs. Mike Klein is spending the summer at her home in Jefferson ville. A family reunion will be held at the Huff homestead on the Briscoe road next Sunday. Relatives are expected from Connecticut. Mr. and Mrs. John Druiett of Long Island City and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gallagher of Astoria visited at the Klein home over the week end. Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Kovach re turned yesterday from Philadelphia, where they took their friend,' Mrs. James Lowey, who spent last week at the Presbyterian manse. Mrs. Marie Emr of Cliffside, N. J., is spending two weeks with her sister Mrs. William Reznicek. Her daughter, Mrs. Lillian McCaskey, and family will arrive tomorrow for a vacation. Mr.' and Mrs. Walter Schwalbe of Hoboken visited his father, Photo grapher Schwalbe, at the weekend. They were accompanied by her mother and brother. Sam Larisch, who had a food store in the Abel building the past two summers, was in town yester day on business. Sam now oper ates a de luxe taxi" in New York'. Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Bowen (Jeanne Deckelman) and family of Syracuse are spending the week with Attorney and Mrs. William Deckelman and Grandpa Fitch in this village. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weber re turned home last night, after six weeks,-- during which they visited relatives and friends in Chicago, iWiashington state and California, and Mr. Weber attended the Pres byterian General Assembly at Se attle in May as a lay delegate from Hudson Presbytery. Shower for Mrs. A. Manzolillo. Mrs. Henry A. Knack and Mrs. James Manzolillo were hostesses at a stork shower given Tuesday even ing for Mrs. Anthony Manzolillo (Marion Layman) at Smiling Jim’s. A bassinet was beautifully decorat ed with pink and blue ribbons, with many lovely gifts hanging from streamers. Those present were Mrs.' Plarry Layman, Miss Helen Layman, Mrs. Warren W. Mall, Mrs. Kate Layman, Mrs. William Erdman, Mrs. Robert Mann, Mrs. Leonard Gohde, Mrs. Oscar Schae fer, Mrs. George Schaefer, Mrs. Callicoon Center, July 6.—Miss Mary Weyrauch, teacher at West- hampton is home for the summer with her brother John O. Wey rauch. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ellmore have moved to one of the Thomas Fair apartments at Callicoon. Chas. Strosser returned home to Long Island after a few weeks of convalescing at Wm. Veyhl’s home. Mrs. Ida Dietz visited her sister- in-law Mrs. Margaret Newsberger at North Branch last week. Mr. and Mrs. Lesland Henry, son and girl friend of Waterloo, N. Y., vacationed at the weekend at the home of his uncle Charles Hahn. The Widmark family is at their summer home the former James Doran house. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lutjen of Freeport were with the Ross Bald wins for the'holiday weekend. They are building a cabin on a lot form erly owned by her father Henry Weyrauch at Liberty. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Buss of Brooklyn and Alfred Messemer and wife of Endicott spent the fourth of July weekend at Wm. Veyhl’s. Mrs. Anna Urban, daughter Mrs. Martin Mullen and children of Mas- peth are spending a few weeks at the Urban homestead. Her sons Alfred and Edward were also here for the weekend. Fred Gramens of New York call ed on friends in town Friday. A daughter, April Lee, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hessinger of White Sulphur at the Liberty hospital Tuesday, April 29. Ed ward was a former Callicoon Cen ter boy. Miss Charlotte Hahn of Endicott is at her parental home, the Elmer Hahns, for summer vacation. The Sunday school enjoyed a pic nic last Tuesday at Lake Anawanda We have no speed limit signs at the entrances to our village. What a fine thing it would be if automo bile and truck drivers would con sider that people live in these small hamlets and they are often on the street. By so thinking they would not want to hit some one and would reduce their speed through town. Safety first, always- Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huss of Jer sey are visiting the Wm. Merklins this week. Mr. and Mrs. James Robinson of Long Island were at the same home at the weekend. J. Douglas Logan and wife and son are spending two weeks at the Henry Knack home. Some of our firemen went to Lake Huntington Sunday to parade with the VFW at their field day. Our boys look very “spiffe” in their new uniforms. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Dorr visited Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dorr at Beers- ton at the weekend. Mrs. Edward Conn of Baltimore is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs, Ross Baldwin. Miss Mathilda Schuster of Brook lyn is visiting at the home of her brother Postmaster S. W. Schuster, KENOZA LAKE. City Engagement Party. Mr. Busing is building a new home on his proper ty here, having recently sold their present place. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Binzen and son Willard of Bloomfield, N. J., spent the holiday at the Wm, c. Fuhrer home. Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Schnibbe were dinner guests on Sunday, also Mrs. Ralph Hamilton and son Charles of Binghamton, and Mrs. Audrey Hanson and Phil Nordt of Bloomfield. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ludwig of New York city are again at the Taylor house apartment for the summer. Mr. Ludwig is having a well drilled on his lot. The Max and Irving Hescheles families of Brooklyn are now sum mering at their homes here. The Theodore Stecher family of Glendale, L. I., are again vacation ing at the bungalow on Lake Hust. After spending a couple of months here Mrs. Pansy Stuart has arrived again in St. Petersburg. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Windhurst and daughter Miss Lottie of Hollis, L, I., are spending the week vaca tioning at Mr. and Mrs. Oskar Girr- bach’s farm. • Miss Julia Mingola of Inwood, L. I., will spend the weekend at the Oskar Girrbach farm with her friend Miss Windhurst. Schaefer, and niece of Mrs. Katherine Sohl of Jeffersonville, where all have been vacation guests for many years. Mildred passed away five years ago July 11. Bill O’Donnell is well and favorably known here. Assaulted in Liberty Tavern. Elbert E. Williams, 27, and Ray mond Jennings, 38, both of Liberty, were arrested Monday on complaint of Henry Barry of Liberty, who charged that the two men had struck him at the Star Tavern there. Barry entered the -Liberty police station at eleven p.m., Sun day, his face battered and bleeding, and asked for the arrest of the pair. He was taken to Dr. Luther Grant who found that Barry was also suffering from back bruises. Williams and Jennings were taken before Acting Magistrate William T. Denman, who ordered them held on $100 bail for a hearing next Monday. WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS. Richard Poley, Harold Heinle and Lester Hogencamp conducted the worship service in the church here Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Neal Rhodecker and children and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Arndt and son Jack of Baltimore were among the weekend guests of their parents Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Travis. Mr. and Mrs. John Hofmann and children spent the weekend at Pompton, Pa., with his parents. Alice Mo^Jthrop, Mrs. Louis Lay- Sidney VanLoan and Wilson Jen- FOSTERDALE. State Trooper Killed. State Trooper Robert V. Conklin, 24, of Sloatsburg was instantly killed last Sunday, when his motor cycle hit the curbing of a safety island on Route 9tW south of High land, Ulster county, and he landed on his head. At the annual 4th of July shoot ing match of the Callicoon Center Schuetzen Verein held on the Tum ble Inn range the following won prizes in the order given with their scores: Francis Erlwein, 114; Clarence Krantz, 107; Horace Keller, 107; Ray Irrera, 105; Wm.
