Know Your Breville Power Blender

Before first use

Removeandsafelydiscardanypackagingmaterialandpromotionallabels.

Disassembletheblenderjugbyfollowingthestepsinthe‘Disassemblingtheblender’sectionbelow.Washthelid,innerlid,blenderjug,siliconseal,blenderjugbaseandbladeassembly inwarm,soapywaterwithasoftcloth.Rinseanddrythoroughly.

Wipe the motor base with a damp cloth and drythoroughly.

Disassembling the blender

1. Placethemotorbaseonaflat,drysurfacesuchasabenchtop.Ensurethatthespeedselectiondialisintheoff‘0’position,theapplianceisswitchedoffatthepoweroutletandthepowercordisunplugged.

2. Remove the blender jug from the motor base byholding the motor base firmly and grasping theblender jug handle and pulling the blender jug upandoffthemotorbase.

3. Remove the lid and innermeasuring cup from theblenderjug.

4. Placethejugupsidedownonaflat,drysurfacesuchasabenchtop.

5. Hold the jughandleand turn theblender jugbaseanti-clockwise to remove. Carefully lift the bladeassemblyoutofthenarrowendoftheblenderjug.Removethesiliconsealfromoutsidethenarrowendoftheblenderjug.

The blending blades are extremely sharp. Avoid any contact with fingers and hands.

NEVER PLACE ANYTHING OTHER THAN FOOD AND LIQUIDS IN THE BLENDER WHILST THE MOTOR IS RUNNING.

Using the blender

1. Ensure the speed selection dial is in the off ‘0’position. Insert the power cord into a 230/240Vpoweroutletandswitchonatthepoweroutlet.

2. Removethe lidandaddfoodand/or liquid into theblenderjug.

3. Select the desired speed by turning the speedselectiondialclockwisetoaspeedbetween1(low)and5(high).Thespeedcanbechangedatanytimeduringtheblendingprocess.Turnthespeedselectiondialanti-clockwisetoselecttheICE(Pulse)setting.

Speed1-2 (lowspeed) issuitable forsavourydipsandthinbatters.

Speed 3-4 (medium speed) is suitable for sauces anddrinks.

Speed 5 (high speed) is suitable for smoothies andcocktails.

ICE (Pulse) can be used for foods that require shortbursts of power to process such as herbs, nuts, smallvegetablesandice.WhenusingtheICE(Pulse)function,holdtheblenderlidinplace.

Assembling and attaching the blender jug

1. Placethemotorbaseonaflat,drysurfacesuchasabenchtop.Ensurethespeedselectiondialisintheoff‘0’position,theapplianceisswitchedoffatthepoweroutletandthepowercordisunplugged.

2. Place the blender jug upside down on a flat, drysurfacesuchasabenchtop.

3. Holdtheblenderjughandleandplacethesiliconsealontothenarrowendoftheblenderjugthencarefullyinsertthebladeassembly.

4. Placetheblenderjugbaseoverthebladeassemblyandturnclockwisetosecureintoposition.

5. Turn the assembled blender jug upright and placeontothemotorbase.

6. Insert the inner measuring cup into the lid, theninsertthelidfirmlyintothetopoftheblenderjug.

NOTE

Ensure lid is placed onto blender jug firmly and the inner measuring cup is in position before operating the blender. Do not operate blender without the lid. Additional ingredients can be added whilst blending by removing the inner measuring cup and placing or pouring ingredients through the middle opening in the lid.

NOTE

Liquids should be placed into the blender jug before solid ingredients, unless specified differently in a recipe.

NOTE

All foods should be cut into cubes (approx. 2-3cm square) to achieve an even result.

NOTE

When using the blender for the first time, you may notice an odour coming from the motor. This is normal and will dissipate with use.

NOTE

If any moisture or liquid appears on the motor base, ensure the speed selection dial is in the off ‘0’ position, the appliance is switched off at the power outlet and the power cord is unplugged, remove the blender jug then wipe the spillage immediately with paper towel and dry thoroughly. Ensure the blender jug is correctly assembled before placing back onto the motor body and operating.

4. Duringblendingprocess,someingredientsmaysticktothesidesoftheblenderjug.Topushthefoodbackontotheblades,turnthespeedselectiondialtotheoff ‘0’ position and switch off at the power outlet.Removethelidanduseaplasticspatulatoscrapedown the sidesof theblender jug.Replace the lidbeforerecommencingblending.

5. Attheendofuse,alwaysensurethespeedselectiondialisturnedtotheoff‘0’position.Thenswitchtheappliance off at the power outlet and unplug thepowercord.

NOTE

Ensure the motor and blades have completely stopped before attempting to move the appliance, when not in use, if left unattended and before disassembling, cleaning and storing.

Care and cleaning

Beforecleaning,ensurethespeedselectiondialisintheoff‘0’position,theapplianceisswitchedoffatthepoweroutletandthepowercordisunpluggedfromthepoweroutlet.

Cleaning the blender jug, lid, inner measuring cup, silicon seal, blender jug base and blade assembly

Washblenderjug,lid,innermeasuringcup,siliconseal,blender jug base and blade assembly in warm soapywater with a soft cloth. Use a kitchen bottle brush todislodgestubbornfood.Rinseanddrythoroughly.Donotplacethelid, innermeasuringcup,siliconseal,blenderjugorbladeassemblyintoadishwasher.

Cleaning the motor base

Wipe the motor base with a soft, damp cloth then drythoroughly. Wipe any excess food particles from thepowercord.

Removing stubborn or strong food stains and odours

Strongsmellingfoodssuchasgarlicandfishmayleavean odour and some vegetables such as carrots mayleaveastainontheblenderjugandlid.Toremove,soakblender jugandlidfor5minutesinwarmsoapywater.Thenwashwithamilddetergentandwarmwater,rinsewellanddrythoroughly.

Storage

Store the blender upright with the blender jug, siliconseal, blade assembly, blender jug base, lid and innermeasuring cup assembled and inserted on the motorbaseorbesideit.Donotplaceanythingontop.

THE BLENDING BLADES ARE EXTREMELY SHARP. AVOID ANY CONTACT WITH FINGERS AND HANDS. USE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING AND STORING.

NOTE

The blender jug can be washed on a normal cycle in a dishwasher. Remove the lid, inner lid, silicon seal, blender jug base and blade assembly before placing the blender jug upside down in the dishwasher for better stability.

NOTE

Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners when cleaning the motor base as they may scratch the surface.

NOTE

Do not expose the glass jug to sudden temperature change.

Hints and Tips

• Do not put more than 2 cups of ingredients intothe blender before blending commences. After theblendingprocesshasbegunandthebladesareturningyoumayslowlyaddanother1½cupsof ingredientsthroughtheinnermeasuringcupopeningifdesired.

• Do not blend a heavy mixture for more than 30secondsatonetimewithoutswitchingofftheblender.For normal blending tasks, such as mayonnaise,dressings, etc., do not operate for longer than 1minuteatonetimewithoutswitchingofftheblender,stirringtheingredientsthencontinuingoperation.

• Donotplacehotorboiling foodsand/or liquids intothe blender; allow to cool before placing into theblenderjug.

• When using several ingredients, place liquidingredientsintheblenderjugfirstunlessspecifiedintherecipetodootherwise.

• When blending thick or dry mixtures it may benecessary tostop theblenderandscrapedown thesidesofthejug,onceortwice,duringblending.

• Theblenderwillnotkneaddoughormashpotatoes.

• Theblender isnotdesigned tochop/mincemeatorextractjuicefromfruitandvegetables.

• Thickmixturessuchaspatés,pureemoreefficientlywhentheblenderjugis¼to½full.

• Donotusetheblendertostorefood.

• Do not overload the blender with more than thespecified quantity of ingredients as doing so couldcausethemotortostall.Turntheblenderoffbyturningthespeedselectiondialtotheoff‘0’position,switchoff at the power outlet and unplug the power cord.Removeaportionofthemixturefromtheblenderjugbeforecontinuing.

• Donotoperatetheblenderwithouttheblenderlidinposition.Toaddadditionalingredientswhilstblending,remove the inner measuring cup and place or pouringredientsthroughtheopeninginthelid.

• Donotfilltheblenderjugabovethe1500ml/1.5LITREline. When the blender jug is filled at or near the1500ml/1.5LITREline,holdtheblenderlidinplacetoavoiddisplacementofthelidduringoperation.

• Donot usemetal utensils as theymay damage thebladesorblenderjug.

• Do not place any objects, other than food or liquid,intotheblenderwhilstthemotorisrunning.

Suggested Uses

Crush ice

Tocrush ice,place1cupof icecubes intotheblenderjug.ReplacethelidandturnthespeedselectiondialtoICE(Pulse)forshortburstsuntiliceiscrushed.Thiswilltakeapproximately15seconds.Whencrushingice,holdlidinplacetoavoiddisplacementduringoperation.

Bread crumbs

Removethecrustsfromthebreadandtearintopieces.Processsufficientpiecesata timetocover theblades.Upto5slicesatatimecanbecrumbed.Stalebreadwillproducethebestresults.

Chopped nuts

Process ¾ cup of nuts at a time. Use the ICE (Pulse)settingasthiswillgivemoreevenchopping.

Drinks

Filltheblenderjugatleast¼fullandremembertoleaveroomtoallowfrothtoformasthedrinkisaerated.

Ground coffee

Coffee beans can be ground sufficiently fine for apercolator or for infusion, but not finely enough fordripolatororespressomachines.Process½cupcoffeebeansatatime.

Soups, sauces, purees

Themostefficient amount toblendwill dependon thefood/recipe used. However, generally, the more liquidused, the more can be processed at one time. Neverprocessboiling liquids or hot ingredients, allow to coolbeforeplacingintotheblenderjug.

TOMATO SOUPServes 2-41 tablespoon oil2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed1 brown onion, peeled and diced2 x 410g cans diced tomatoes1 tablespoon tomato paste2 teaspoons brown sugar

1. Heatoil ina largesaucepan,addgarlicandonions,cook over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes or untilonionissoft.

2. Combine tomatoes, tomato paste and brown sugarand pour into pan with onion mixture, bring to theboil,thenreduceheatandsimmeruncoveredfor20minutesoruntilliquidhasreducedbyonethird.

3. Allowthemixturetocool.

4. Transfer mixture in three batches into blender jug,selectspeed5andblenduntilsmooth.

Variations

TOMATO AND BASIL SOUPAdd ¼ cup of basil leaves to the blender jug whenpureeing.

PUMPKIN SOUPServes 2-42 tablespoons oil1 brown onion, peeled and diced2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed400g butternut pumpkin, peeled and diced4 cups/1 litre chicken stock

1. Heat oil in a large saucepan, add onion and garlic,sautéfor5minutes.
