Origin This method was developed in the 1790’s and
it was created by a Bulgarian Psychotherapist Georgi Lozanov and the term is derived from suggestion and pedagogy.
Characteristics Four principles of suggestopedia: 1. Be positive
2. Short term and long term memory of the learner
3.Give lessons with emotional meaning 4.Assimilate before Analyze
Role of the teacher The teacher has to put the students in a state of
mind called “concentrative psychorelaxation”
Use communicative activities.
Motivate students.
Show confidence.
Always be organize.
Comfortable environment
The classroom has to be different from the other classrooms, they have to be organized with the chairs in semicircle and facing a black or white board in order to make the students to pay more attention and get more relaxed.
The use of music In this method is necessary use Baroque
music because it goes 60 beats per minute and that is that rhythm create a state of relax and is easier to concentrate and memorize things.
Peripheral Learning Students learn not only from direct
instructions but also from indirect instructions, it’s important to use around the class different kinds of material (posters, flashcards) with information about the language or rules.
Free errors It’s alright if students make some mistakes
when they are talking and they pronunciate some words incorrectly.
Homework is limited The unique homework is reread the material
they use in classroom, once before they go to the bed and once after waking up.
Objective The objective of this method is to create
confidence in the students when they are learning English or a second language.
