Effectively providing a Credible PoliticalAlternative Our SuggestionsFrom : IAC Singapore and IAC HongKong

(names & profiles of key contributors provided at the end of this document. Theseinclude 2 individuals who fasted with Anna ji in Mumbai & Delhi)

To : Shri Arvind Kejriwal ji and Core Team Members, Team Anna

Purpose of this Note :1. To congratulate Team Anna on the momentous decision2. To share our humble suggestions on credible strategies to effectively do so

    Welcoming the Decision

On behalf of the 2000+ subscribers to IAC Singapore & HongKong, we express our heartfeltadmiration of your courageous fight against corruption and the recent fast at Jantar Mantar.

We wholeheartedly welcome your decision announced on 2 nd August 2012 to provide a politicalalternative. While we do feel somewhat anxious about the magnitude of the task ahead, we arevery excited by the prospect of what this can potentially achieve. We understand that the ultimategoal of this move is to ensure that our Legislature & Executive are filled with honest individualswho are committed to Nation Building. We recommend the name Swaraj Party.

    Key Choices Ahead

Apart from questions on the modus operandi (how to select candidates, raise funds, ensurehonesty post-election, etc) we believe the biggest choice is to decide on 2 critical issues:

    1. Ambition: How would we define success for 2014 in political terms? King OR King Maker 2. Focus: Narrow, Targeted & Fiercely Independent OR Broad & Leveraged Coalition

    Our Suggestions

Ambition: Be King Maker the powerful force that swings the vote in favour of the honest

We believe that a lot will need to be built before we can have a credible chance of winningenough vote share in constituencies and winning enough seats to form a government. Hence, our recommendation is to be King-Maker (we regret the unfortunate term King used here)

Focus : Be open to leveraging coalitions & like-minded parties IF they bring honest candidates

Our recommendation is to pursue a combination of:

Sharp targeted focus on winning few specific seats for Swaraj party (5 to 10% seats) &help a large party in forming a stable government in return for clean governance

PLUS Campaign in most constituencies in favour or against particular parties or candidates to

swing the outcome in favour of honest candidates of Swaraj party or even others

Target/focus on upcoming assembly elections in HP (or Gujarat )

Swaraj party needs to transparently decide and communicate certain broad principles/ideas/policies it stands for: eg: Complete Transparency, Maximum Decentralization,Lokpal and anti-corruption, More democracy by means of electoral reforms, Judicial and

police reforms, Individual liberty , Press independence, etc. In all of this, maintain Lokpal,anti-corruption as the core.

Above principles like transparency & decentralization should apply to the party (not justgovernments ). The party & its leaders should meet higher standards to win support

Bring various other political and pressure groups on board by being receptive to their ideas and moulding ours, if appropriate. Be firm on rejecting ideas that are clearly bad.

Best leaders: Recognize that only known faces are likely to win. Given that Anna wontcontest, we should ensure that atleast the rest of the top leadership is willing to putreputation on stake and contest. Convince celebrities like Anupam Kher , Shekhar Kapur to come forward to contest/campaign

Women are often under-represented in political arena in our country, qualified womencandidates should also be given a fair chance to take this responsibility.
