Editor’s NotesIts never static. The stories you tell of childhood days, the

memories you hold dear - they multiply , a thousand times over. We kept saying Wake Up & Live, and at first it was just

a catchy phrase that gave a caffine - like boost 6am each morning. Off swings the feet and the beat starts playing in your head , and you’re ready to go !Until a loved one dies too soon , or too young. Destined for Greatness - Now Gone.

Alas, Life is an adventure. It is the movies, the novels , the stories we make up. It’s beautiful, romantic, tragic and sad, stand ovation worthy. How wonderful it is to have this mo-ment with you. Words cannot explain the joy in my heart that there is now a Sugarplum Box. A place where creativity lives

Let the Adventures Begin.

You’ll see a marble-cake array of raw black soap, racks of incense sticks and a

multitude of shelves of non-conventional, non-commercialize pure organic good

wholesome hair, skin & beauty products. My friendship with store owner Dian ironi-

cally started over a Box. It was Denbigh 2008, I met and instantly fell in love with the

most gorgeous wooden box and made a vow that I had to get the entire set for

myself. Soon thereafter I bought her entire inventory of wooden boxes and the rest

is history.

Spotlight OnEarth Elements

Chit ChatSPB: What motivated you to get into this business?E.E. I had shipped some items like candles, soaps, incense and things that I love for my home and the customs officer at the time asked me the location of my store. And like the cartoons, the light bulb came on in my head. Why not open a store and sell all the things I like and I can see and smell them every day.

SPB: How do you compare the business of selling natural and organic products/brands to main stream beauty counter-parts?E.E: There is a niche for natural & organ-ic products, by virtue of lifestyle be it Dr’s recommendation, religion, or just healthy living. Education on natural remedies to alleviate simple yet annoying skin condi-tions is flooding the market so we are in the right place at the right time.

SPB: You’ve made a special potion for our SPB’ers - how vibrant is the handmade/homemade industry in Jamaica?E.E:Necessity is the “mother of invention”.

Most persons who can’t even find time to scratch their heads but have the knowledge of the healing properties and benefits of the natural ingredients in hand-made skin care products demand that we find creative and in-novative ways to satisfy their family’s skin care needs at their convenience and will pay the right price.

SPB: What advice would you give to persons looking to get into the business of selling Natural & Organic hair, skin & beauty products1.The market is big enough for all of us.2. Find persons who will offer guidance and en-couragement.3. Build a relationship with your bank and be disciplined when it comes spending. One less shoes can buy raw materials to make prod-ucts that will yield enough money for ten pairs which you still do not need.

“If you are lazy, keep your day job.”

Brands to Buy IntoSlang Teez has to be the Hottest T-Shirt line available in Jamaica right about now. The birth-child of KIRK

ALLEN ( aka Kirky Don ) this homegrown Jamaica brand has summersaulted into the Hall of “Over-night Success”. This ambitious 24 yr.old 6 days a week working chef hails from the city of Montego Bay and has single handedly took a late night conversation that most men his age use to stroke their egos (no puns intended) and turned it into a Post Office Shut Down shipping to the 4 corners of the world T-shirt line that celebrates the core of being a young Jamaican. Everyone was saying it, why not let them wear it. His hip, young, globally appealing brand has graced the torsos of dancehall fans ,icons and finest locally and overseas, Jamaican hard core yawdies and the wanna-be’s. Sugarplum Box crowns Slang Teezs as the Brand to Buy Into. Built on purest Jamaican mentality - Go Hard and Dun !www.slangteez.com
