Why isn’t winning important? The philosophy of the Sugar Grove Park Distict provides for local league sports programs with emphasis on the development of the child both as an individual and as an athlete. The goal of this program is to provide an enjoyable, safe atmosphere in which children can learn respect, sportsmanship and specific sport skills.
Who is coaching my child? All Park District league coaches are volunteers who are trained and certified by the Park District using the National Youth Sports Coaches Association clinics. This program teaches coaches about important topics such as the psychology of coaching youth sports, tips on teaching and communication, parents as partners, injury prevention, hydration and specific sport skills. VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED. If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, fill out the Coach Application under forms and contracts at www.sgparks.org. Applications are accepted once registration for that specific league opens.
What equipment is needed? Basketball - Sugar Grove Park District game shirts are part of the registration fee and are handed out by the coach.Baseball/Softball/T-ball/Tiny Sluggers - Sugar Grove Park District jerseys are part of the registration fee and are handed out by the coach.
Where and when are practices? Typically, the first two weeks are set aside for practice at various parks and school sites. Teams usually meet no more than twice a week. Practice times and location are set by the coaches since they volunteer their time. Players are contacted by coaches after teams have been formed at the coaches’ meeting.
When is the first practice? Coaches inform players of their first practice. If you don’t receive a phone call from your coach one week prior to the start date, please call our office at 630-466-7436.
Who will answer my questions? Ask your coach first. If he/she is unable to answer your question, please contact Liz at 630-466-7436, ext. 15.

These wheels are ready to roll! Students use LEGO® Bricks, axles, pulleys, gears, motors and more to build a variety of models on wheels. Some are familiar vehicles, such as a fire engine and delivery truck. Other amazing models, such as the Rescue Robot and K-9 Bot, will give students more to learn. Do you have a need for speed? Put your Speed Bot model to the test as you race against others using remote controls! We’ll explore concepts of speed and force, and gain non-vehicle knowledge from the unconventional Wheels in Motion models as well. Let’s roll! Children work in teams of two and each child takes home a custom mini-figure at the end of the session.
