Sugar causes severe
health problems Do not underestimate what sugar does to your body. Do you regularly
eat sugar or sugar containing products? (This also includes coffee or tea
with added sugar!). Then remember that sugar causes long-term health
consequences.
Sugar and health problems
Sugar does not only make you fat, it also causes several health problems.
Besides the fact that sugar is one of the most important contributors to
overweight and obesity, sugar consumption can also lead to following
symptoms:
A deceased function of your immune system (which results in a
lower protection against infectious diseases).
An increase in your fasting glucose levels. This can cause reactive
hypoglycemia (a sharp drop in blood sugar).
A decrease in your insulin sensitivity. This allows abnormally high
insulin levels and an imbalance in the hormone system (decreased
libido, PMS, thyroid disease) as well as diabetes.

Premature aging of skin and body tissues.
An increased risk of getting osteoporosis.
Uncontrolled growth of infections (e.g. candida albicans).
High blood pressure and damage to your arteries. This can lead to
high cholesterol levels and cardiovascular diseases.
Growth of various types of cancer, because sugar "feeds" cancer
cells. Sugar has been associated with the development of breast,
ovarian, prostate, rectum, pancreas, gall bladder, stomach, and lung
cancer.
A higher risk of developing hemorrhoids, gallstones, headaches and
depression and autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, asthma and
multiple sclerosis.
Deficiencies of minerals and other components such as chromium
and copper. Also sugar causes malabsorption of calcium and
magnesium in body tissues. This causes chronic fatigue, muscle
cramps or other pains.
Tooth decay and gum inflammation.
Imbalances of your cell metabolism and digestion.
A growing lever, which can lead to severe liver disorders.
Kidney problems.
ADHD / ADD / depression and other mental conditions.
Sugar and your brains
Besides the fact that sugar almost literally 'breaks down' your body, sugar
also has a negative effect on your brains. Sugar may damage the structure
of your brains in. Eating sugar slows down the development and function
of certain brain areas, which will make you less able to take proper
decisions. Also, you will respond more instinctively or aggressive.
Therefore, if you (often) eat a lot of sugar, it makes it more difficult to
avoid unhealthy food and almost impossible to choose healthy
alternatives.

Sugar is addictive
Unfortunately, sugar is highly addictive. If you eat sugar, you can compare
the impact of it with opium-like substances, such as dopamine. This is the
same effect that occurs with the use of cigarettes, drugs and alcohol.
Therefore, quitting eating sugar is so difficult.
Conclusion and recommendations
Try to avoid sugar as much as possible or, even better, completely. If you
eat a little bit of sugar occasionally, it won’t hurt you (permanently), but
keep in mind that you do not provide your body a favor if you eat
something that contains sugar. Especially in the long term, health
problems can be severe and irreversible.

How to Detox from Sugar?
How to detox from sugar? Sugar addiction detoxing is difficult, but
definitely worth the effort. What are the characteristics of a sugar
addiction? Why is it so important to do a ‘sugar addiction detox’? And
how can you make a sugar detox diet plan?

When do you need a sugar detox?
By answering these questions, you can find out whether you have a sugar
addiction and if a sugar detox is necessary for you.
Do you often feel tired after a meal?
Do you need to eat something sweet, even though you are full after a
nutritious meal (e.g. a dessert after dinner)?
If eat something sweet, does it often happen that you eat more than
you intended to?
Do you ever feel guilty after eating something sweet? But do you,
despite that, still eat more of it?
Do you think of excuses why you really need candy, a glass of soda or a
cup of coffee (with sugar)?
Have you tried to cut down on sugar, but were you unable to stick to
it?
Do you sometimes hide sweets or snacks, or are you afraid telling
anyone what or how much you’ve been eating or drinking?
Do you feel restless or irritable if you do not get your daily serving of
sugar?
Do you find it difficult to avoid products with sugar?
If you have answered one or more questions with ‘yes’, the chances are
great that you have a sugar addiction.
Sugar addiction detox is worth it!
Sugar is also called ‘the white death’. And this has a reason, because
eating sugar has several (severe) negative health effects. Below you can
find the 10 most important reasons why you should do a sugar detox.
1. Sugar affects your immune system. During the digestion of sugar, your
body is using vital vitamins and minerals as well as dietary fiber. So, if
you eat sugar, you are literally robbing your body from these nutrients.
Sugar consumption also lowers your blood pH, which affects your
immune system negatively. You’ll be ill quicker, more often and will
![Page 6: Sugar causes severe health problems · decide that you want to change your diet permanently. If you realize that your health is the most important thing, then go for it! Within 2](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050120/5f503c1f3eda062e7674246c/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

need a longer time span to recover from illnesses or diseases.
(reference).
2. Sugar creates an imbalance in your insulin levels and insulin production.
If you eat sugar, your body produces insulin. Insulin makes your blood
sugar level stable again after it has been rising (this happens if you eat
something with sugar). But if your blood glucose level gets too high for
a too long time and on a very regular basis, your insulin production
does not work proper anymore. In that case, your body cells become
immune to insulin, which results in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases
and overweight. (reference).
3. Sugar causes tooth decay. Sugar ‘feeds’ the bad bacteria in your mouth
and causes tooth decay. (reference).
4. Sugar makes you tired. Sugar seems to provide you with lots of energy,
but after eating sugar, you always feel tired and exhausted. This
happens, because eating sugar causes high blood glucose levels, which
are quickly dropping down again. A high blood glucose level makes you
feel great and energetic, but a (too) low blood glucose level (which you
will always get after eating sugar!) makes you tired and lethargic.
5. Sugar addiction causes diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Sugar seems to be an important inhibiter in causing diabetes, cancer
and cardiovascular diseases. This has to do with high glucose and
cholesterol levels, which are caused by sugar consumption. (reference).
6. Sugar causes several negative health effects. Headache, migraine, acne,
skin conditions, asthma, fatigue, sleeping problems, stress, intestinal
dysfunctions like diarrhea and allergies. If you are suffering from one or
more of these symptoms, observe what happens if you have done a
sugar detox.
7. Sugar is addictive. Sugar is addictive as much as alcohol, tobacco
(cigarettes, cigars, etc.) and even cocaine! Sugar activates the same
areas in your brain as alcohol, tobacco or drugs (reference). Your brain
gets addicted to dopamine. This dopamine is getting released every
time you eat sugar. Therefore, you will be craving to eat sugar again
and again.

© Copyright IC-Today | http://www.IC-Today.com| [email protected]
8. Sugar affects your emotions. This has to do with the high blood glucose
and high insulin levels (see point 4). Too much insulin affects your brain
negatively and causes aggression and depression. (reference).
9. Sugar has a negative effect on your level of saturation after eating a
meal of drinking a drink. Because sugar is highly addictive and causes
blood glucose imbalances, you will never feel full after eating (or
drinking) something with sugar. This stimulates binge eating and causes
overweight and obesity. (reference).
10. Sugar causes wrinkles, just as bad (or even worse!!) as cigarettes
and UV-rays do! (reference).
How to detox from sugar?
If you want to get rid of your sugar addiction, is the first step to firmly
decide that you want to change your diet permanently. If you realize that
your health is the most important thing, then go for it! Within 2 or 3
weeks you can detox from sugar, as long as you stick to it. However, you
will only succeed if you dramatically change your eating habits!
Sugar detox diet plan
A sugar detox diet plan helps you to keep up with your new lifestyle.
These tips may help you to detox from sugar:
Give yourself time to detox. A sugar detox takes time. You also need
perseverance and strength. Your body needs this time to detox from the
negative effects of sugar. It takes at least a week before you feel that the
urge to eat sugar decreases. Reward yourself with something (but nothing
that contains sugar!) if you managed to live a few days or weeks without
sugar. Never reward yourself with something that has sugar in it, because
then you’re back were you began; day 1 of your sugar detox.
Look very critically at your diet. Avoid all products that contain sugar and
also look at the glycemic value of everything you eat. Foods with a high
glycemic value (GV) allow your blood sugar to rise significantly (see
section 2 and 4 above), so you will like to eat sugar again. Therefore,
![Page 8: Sugar causes severe health problems · decide that you want to change your diet permanently. If you realize that your health is the most important thing, then go for it! Within 2](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050120/5f503c1f3eda062e7674246c/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)

choose foods with a low GV. In this way, you can avoid an excessively high
blood sugar. A low GV is 0 – 55 on the scale of 100. Any food that has a GV
higher than 55, should be avoided.
You need to work out! Exercising helps you to avoid sugar containing
foods and drinks and to helps you to burn body fat. Since body fat is one
of the things that makes you crave for sugar, working out is a great tip
that helps you to overcome your sugar addiction.
Let your taste buds be revived. If you eat lots of processed foods, your
taste buds work less efficient. They are literally made numb by all kinds of
additives, sugars and salt. Therefore, you should only eat unprocessed,
pure food. So please avoid bought pizzas. Instead, choose homemade
flourless pizzas (E.g. dough made from cauliflower and organic eggs) with
fresh vegetables. Do not eat fried foods like fries and especially avoid
sauces, biscuits or pre-packed packets. Making your own is just as fast and
much better! You will find that your taste gets better over time, and there
may be things that you may have never tasted before. If you fall back into
your old pattern, then you will find out that everything tastes too salty,
too sweet of too chemical.

Refined sugar or brown sugar;
what are the differences? White sugar, raw brown sugar, caster sugar. How do they differ? Which
kind of sugar is healthier? Is sugar bad for you? The brown-colored types
orefined sugar look more naturally due to their dark color, but are they
healthier than white sugar?
The different kinds of sugar vary in purity, processing, shape, color, and
(vegetable) origin. In Europe, sugar is mainly produced from sugar beets.
In other parts of the world, manufacturers mainly use sugar cane to
produce sugar. The chemical composition, however, is the same for both
types: sucrose. It is a mixture of glucose and fructose. Both types of sugar
(derived from sugar beets as well as and from sugar cane) consist 99.8%
of sucrose.

Production of refined sugar from sugar beets
After sugar beets are harvested, washed and cut, the cuttings are soaked
in warm water. This dissolves the sugar and the “non-sugar substances”
into the water and creates a raw sugar juice. This juice gets purified and
concentrated so that the sugar content of the substance increases from
16% to 67%. This concentrated mixture is getting reheated and boiled
until the sugar crystals from the sugar syrup occur. Due to the presence of
water and steam, the sugar crystals get of their white color. The result is a
white granulated sugar. The left-over product of the crystallization
process is called molasses. Molasses often gets further processed, for
example for the production of cake, rye bread, dark beer, rum, and soy
sauce.
Refined sugar, white sugar, brown sugar and caster sugar
All types of sugar that have a brown color can be called brown sugar,
including (raw) cane sugar, brown sugar and caster sugar. The different
types of sugar vary in taste and production methods. From some varieties
molasses is not removed, but completely dried and concentrated the
whole juice. These kinds of sugar contain a slightly higher vitamin and
mineral content than the most commonly used white sugar types. It is the
minerals and vitamins in brown sugar that give the brown types of sugar
their brown color. The “regular” brown sugar (brown caster sugar) is
refined white sugar that does not contain caramelized molasses. In fact,
brown caster sugar contains colored caramel syrup. The caramelization
process does not give the sugar a higher vitamin and mineral content,
only a (dark) brown color and a richer taste.
Is all sugar bad for you?
All sugar is bad for your health. White refined sugar or “regular” brown
sugar, don’t contain any minerals and vitamins at all. Some types of ‘raw’
brown sugar contain some minerals and vitamins such as magnesium,
potassium, vitamin B1, B2 and niacin. But the concentrations are so low
that they don’t have any health benefits at all. In fact, during the digestion
![Page 11: Sugar causes severe health problems · decide that you want to change your diet permanently. If you realize that your health is the most important thing, then go for it! Within 2](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050120/5f503c1f3eda062e7674246c/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

of sugar, your body uses all these vitamins and minerals to process the
sugar.
Also in terms of energy content and tooth decay, there is no difference
between the various types of sugar. Brown sugar is not a healthier
alternative for white, refined sugar. Furthermore, not all brown colored
sugar types contain more minerals. And raw brown sugar types that do
contain some, have such low vitamin and mineral concentrations, that
they don’t provide any health benefits. Additionally, all types of sugar,
regardless of color, purity, processing or plant origin, have the same
energy value. The reason for choosing to use brown or white refines sugar
is solely a matter of taste. But even though sugar may taste good, your
body is not happy with it.
Side effects of sugar
If you eat sugar, your body gets completely stressed out. During
production process of sugar, all vitamins and minerals are extracted from
the product. However, your body needs these nutrients badly in order to
be able to digest sugar! So, if you eat sugar, you literally ‘rob’ your body of
essential nutrients! This may eventually lead to serious symptoms, which
put your body out of balance. Daily consumption of sugar causes health
problems (e.g. osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, infections, obesity, dental
problems, anemia and cardiovascular diseases). Also, sugar creates an
imbalance in the amount and activity of neurotransmitters (messenger
substances of the brains). Thus, you can start to feel depressed if you eat
sugar. Since sugar has a large addictive effect, the likelihood of depression
is large. Eventually also concentration problems, inner restlessness and
irritability may occur.

“A 100% natural lifestyle, healthy eating and living is easy,
affordable and fun!” My name is Melissa Albers (Bsc in nutrition) and I am specialized in pathology, metabolic conditions, psychiatry & medication. I help people, which are in need of professional dietary and health support. In the beginning, the majority of my clients asked me for help concerning weight loss, diabetes and unhealthy eating habits, but later on I specialized myself in treating patients with chronic conditions.
Since 2008 I am especially helping out people with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) / Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS), because in the beginning of the same year my husband had been diagnosed with this condition. For several years he suffered tremendously from Interstitial Cystitis (IC) related symptoms. We both experienced that neither the health industry, nor patient or governmental organizations completely realized that coping with a chronic condition means more than taking a pill against physical pain and/or mental discomfort and that medication or operations (like removing the bladder) are not always the best solution.
Due to the lack of correct support from the (health) industry (including several specialists who advised to remove my husband’s bladder and take loads of heavy medication, because their wouldn’t be another solution), we decided to take the lead in our own hands. I knew what the burden of disease of my partner was, so I knew what he needed. According to his needs, I started creating a personal health plan for him, which consisted of a special diet, supplements, exercise and mental support. It took us five hard years with a lot of perseverance, but until today my partner is completely cured and stronger and healthier as he has ever been. Read more success stories.
It is my aim is to help chronically ill patients (including patients with Interstitial Cystitis) by trying to raise awareness about the burden of disease and provide them with the proper cure and care in relation to nutrition and mental health.
My greatest passion is to motivate you to choose for a 100% natural lifestyle and show you that healthy eating and living can be very easy, affordable and fun! My mission is to inform you about the need and ‘how-to’ of a healthy body & mind.
Kind regards,
Melissa Albers
