Contact [email protected] Application Deadline: February 22, 2017 The Success Mentor Program is looking for 30-35 student leaders interested in playing a vital role in the successful transition of new students to UC Merced during the 2017-2018 academic year. Through personal connections, Success Mentors will work with first-year students to build community, connect with and learn how to utilize campus and community resources, and develop strategies for success as a Bobcat. Position Details & Timeline $11.65/hour Spring 2017 – Training (20-25 hours total) Summer 2017 – Employment opportunities may exist for those who successfully complete spring training Fall 2017 – Spring 2018 – 6-10 hours/week Position Responsibilities Spring 2017 • Participate in Success Mentor Training (March 18, April 8 & 15, dates subject to change) • Shadow a current mentor during one mentee meeting • Develop and provide resources or events for first-year students in collaboration with 16-17 SMP staff 2017-2018 • Meet individually with assigned mentees (an average of 30 minutes a week) • Empower first-year students to make a successful academic and social transition to UC Merced • Work with mentees to define and establish academic and personal goals • Connect mentees with campus and community resources • Serve as a liaison between the Bright Success Center, the University, and mentees • Develop and implement “meet-up” events for mentees in collaboration with other mentors • Serve on a committee with fellow Success Mentors to further the efforts of SMP • Exemplify the values of the University of California, including UC Merced’s Principles of community Qualifications • In good judicial and academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 • Knowledgeable about campus resources and how to access them • Able to work with and support a diverse body of students • Excellent communication skills, including active listening skills • Effective organizational and time management skills • Able to work independently and exercise sound judgment • Familiarity and sensitivity to transition issues faced by first-year students, particularly commuter students • Able to work independently with minimal supervision • Experience with the Success Mentor Program as a mentee or mentor preferred but not required • Level 1 Bobcat Leadership Series certification preferred To Apply 1.
