Nonstandard units

When we are learning to measure length we can use a nonstandard unit to help us.

A nonstandard unit can be anything e.g. a pencil, paperclip, shoe, lego brick, your hand or foot.

We have to make sure we use the same object to measure each time...

and not use a mixture of objects...

this way we get an accurate result.
