VERDI REQUIEMNATIONAL ARTS CENTRE ORCHESTRAAlexander Shelley, ConductorOttawa Choral SocietySaturday, September 14, 2019 at 7:30 PM Join us for Verdi’s tour de force with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the
Ottawa Choral Society, and four fabulous soloists! Few works in the repertoire
offer the drama of opera and the thrill of spectacular symphonic writing
combined with stellar, virtuosic solo moments. Verdi’s Requiem will conjure
up both intense pathos and a sense of apocalyptic drama when conductor
Alexander Shelley directs a massive group of soloists, choir members, and
orchestra in what may be the mightiest mass in musical history.

A LITTLE BIT IN LOVE:BERNSTEIN AND BRAHMSARC ENSEMBLE with PATRICIA O'CALLAGHAN, SOPRANOTuesday, March 24, 2020 at 7:30 PM
Bernstein/Kaufman/Brahms Delight in the songs from Bernstein’s Candide, On the Town, and
Wonderful Town, and the beautiful Brahms Clarinet Quintet with
TSO Principal Clarinetist, Joaquin Valdepeñas. Leonard Bernstein’s
extravagant talents could frustrate many groups. The classical
music devotees would have had him compose more and conduct
less, the Broadway fans saw him as the saviour of the American
musical, and educators watched him demystify music (without
removing the mystery) — all of whom wanted him to devote
himself to the part of his genius in which they were most invested.
However, Bernstein pursued every project with the commitment
of the moment and he consumed life in much the same way.

Vivaldi, Red Priest has performed sold-out concerts in many of the
world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls. Red Priest is the
only early music group in the world to have been compared in the
press to the Rolling Stones, Jackson Pollock, the Marx Brothers, Spike

been described by music critics as “visionary and heretical,” “wholly

imaginative," with a “red-hot wicked sense of humour.“

a highly successful orchestra internationally. Their recordings have
won all-important awards for classical recordings such as the Grammy,

17th and 18th centuries, we will hear how French, English, German, and
Italian baroque music reflects the story of how migrants and refugees
influenced the culture in each country. Safe Haven features music by

STORYTELLING WITHOUT BORDERS
Featuring KYOKO OGODA and SELINA CHIARELLISaturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM Rehearsal Hall

amassed to bring you something new from something very old indeed.
Kyoko Ogoda, a classically trained Marimba player and Taiko Drum
leader, joins Selina on her journey through the world of storytelling.
Blending voice and rhythm, story and song, and using traditional
storytelling as the foundation for their performance. The duo engages
young audiences with timeless tales of bravery and strength. Their
timeless work introduces audiences to different ways to see the world
and expand their horizons through the ancient art of storytelling.

THE SMALL THINGSA STORY TOLD THROUGH DANCEKathryn MacKay, DirectorDavid Archibald, Music DirectorMelissa Mahady Wilton, Director of ChoreographyDavid Dines, ComposerPerformed by H’artists and guest performersFriday, April 17, 2020 at 10 AM and 6 PM
Saturday, April 18, 2020 at 2 PM and 6 PM The Small Things is a story told through dance and spoken word and
video featuring performances by nearly 50 remarkable local
artists and performers with different abilities. Working with several
talented choreographers, the performers have created original
dance pieces that range from whimsical to awe-inspiring. As
the story opens, we meet H’artists taking a dance class along
the Kingston waterfront while enjoying nature. Out of the blue,
a construction crew starts to set up bright orange pylons. They
are building a new road. It will be efficient, modern, and most
importantly, it will be BIG! Progress — a great thing — or is it? In our
rush toward the future, do we risk losing the small things that many
can’t see and even fewer know how to value? The Small Things is a
spirited, narrated dance performance unlike anything you’ve seen.

CERTIFIED Written and performed by Jan DerbyshireDirected by Roy SuretteStudio Theatre @ the IsabelLivestreamThursday, June 13, 2019, at 8:30 PMComedian and certified insane person Jan Derbyshire turns audiences in Kingston and across the country into a mental health review board to help determine her current state of sanity.
