Parentsandcaregiverscanplayabigroleinchildren’snutritionandhealth,teachingkidsabouthealthyfoods,beingagoodrolemodelandmakingsurephysicalactivityisincorporatedintoeachday.
August,whichisKidsEatRightMonth,isagreattimeforfamiliestofocusontheimportanceofhealthfuleatingandactivelifestyles.TheAcademyofNutritionandDieteticsisencouragingfamiliestotakethefollowingsteps:
Shop Smart.Toencourageahealthylifestyle,getyourchildreninvolvedinselectingthefoodthatwillappearatthebreakfast,lunchordinnertable.
Cook Healthy.Involveyourchildinthecutting,mixingandpreparationofmeals.Theywilllearnaboutfoodandmayevenbeenticedtotrynewfoodstheyhelpedprepare.

Stateemployeeswithaninterestinworkingalongsidelocalemergencymanagementandfirstresponders,orthosesimplylookingforawaytocontributetotheircommunity,haveanavailableopportunitythroughtheIndianaDepartmentofHomelandSecurity(IDHS).IDHSisworkingwithotherstateagenciestorecruitmembersforvariouspositionswithintheIncidentManagementAssistanceTeam(IMAT).
IMATwasoriginallyformedin1993asaforwardresponseteamcapableofmanaging,stabilizingandresolvinganycrisiswhetherinIndiana,ortoassistotherstates.Sincethen,theIMAThasbeenavailabletoprovideadvisoryservicesandsupporttolocaljurisdictionsduringtimesofdisasterandlargescaleemergenciessuchasHenryvilleandSuperstormSandyontheEastCoast.HostedbyIDHS,theIMATiscomprisedofmembersfrommultiplestateagenciesandtrainedtoaddressalltypesofemergencyincidents.
