A sentence expresses a complete thought and must have a subject and a predicate. It should also have proper capitalization and punctuation.

Simple Subjects

Simple subject- is the main word or group of words in the complete subject.

The simple subject is usually a noun or a pronoun.

A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or an idea

Ex. Tina, school, boat, invention A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a

noun Ex. She, we, they, he, it, mine, its

Ex. All people change their environment.

subject, which is a collective noun.

The simple predicate is always a verb. A verb is a word that expresses action or a state of being.

Sentence- (Wildlife) inhabits the woodlands.

The predicate tells and or gives information about the subject. It answers the what, or whom the sentence is about. There is no verb in the fragment.

Ex. Healthy forest land.-fragment It lacks a predicate. (Healthy forest land) is the subject it does not

give any information about the forest land nor does it have a verb.

Ex. Healthy forest land support many kinds of wildlife.- sentence
