' It is noted that LEWIN was furnished with acopy of the inventory of the merchandise removed fromhis premises.
On April 17, 1974, while on the premisesof the Universal Gem and Jewelry Company, Incorporated,5 North Wabash Avenue, Chicago, 11linoi* and during thesearch of these premises SA locatedin the shirt pocket of ADQLPH LEWIN an envelopecontaining a Tiffany and Company pocket watch encrustedwith jewels on the back of which was the scriptletter "L" which was also encrusted and surroundedby whet appeared to be diamonds. At that time ADOLFHLEWIH was furnished a receipt for this pocket watch

Universal Gem and Jewlcry Company, Incorporated premises,ADQLPH LEWIN was_removed to the Chicago Ofiice viaBureau car where he was fingerprinted and photographed.LEWIN was then removed to the Central DetentionHeadquarters, Chicago Police Department 1121 SouthState Street,.Chicago, Illinois, where he was held forsafekeeping until his appearance before the United StatesMagistrate on April 18, 1974.
On April 18, 1974, ADOLPH LEWIN appeared beforeUnited States Magistrate GLGA JURCO, NDI, Chicago,Illinois. At that time LENIN was represented by AttorneyEDWARD CALLAU$N who advised the United States Magistratethat his client-waived a preliminary hearing. LEWINwas then released by United States Magistrate JURCOon a $15,000 Own Hecognizance on! Bond, after having beenbound over to the USDL.

Investigation was predicated u on recei t of informationqcwhich was received from Detectiv Dallas, Texas,
k7 Police Department, who advised on February 15, 1974, that thesuite in the Statler Hilton Hotel where the well-known night cluband television entertainer LEE LIBERACE was staying had beenburglarized. Dete t'v a ' ' 'c i gfurther advised that investigationdetermined that no a arent 'pp orced entry had been used to gainentrance to LIBERACE's suite or to the metal aluminum suitcasecontaining a combination lock, where LIBERACE kept his jewelryHe stated that a latent fingerprint and partial palm print wasdeveloped on the aluminum suitcase and alson on an ash tray,however, no elimination prints were taken. LIBERACE estimatedhis loss of jewelry at $75,000.

He statedat the time he left, he did not observe anyone in the hall,and upon return, at approximately 12:30 on February 15, 1974,he went to put some of the jewelry back into the metal suitcasewhich was loosed and left on a stand in the rocm. LI5ERACE'S metal suitcase bad been opened andsome of the jewelry containers bad been emptied and put on thefloor, �e sated, in addition, he discovered seven one dollarbills, which had been left in another room in an ashtray to bemissing along with a bolo necktie with a silver dollar dated1889 and a LeCoulter diamond white gold wristwatch, valued at$600, missing.

uA search warrant was obtained and authorized complaint/ filed before United States Magistrate, Chicago, Illinois,charging LEWIN with violation of Title 18, Section 2315,United States Code. A search warrant was executed in theearly evening hours of April 17, 1974, and LEWIN was arrested.This search revealed numerous trays of rings believed identifi-able with burglary of a jewelry salesman, Hammond Company,
i staying at the TraveLodge Hotel, 4500 Harry Hines Boulevard,� Dallas, Texas, March l7, 1974, also proceeds of several localA burglaries were recovered. A search of LEWIN's person revealed, a platinum pocked watch with letter "L" encrusted and surrounded

At thetime of this incidenh�vas residing at theTravelodge Hotel, 4500 arry lines Boulevard, Dallas, Texas.It also deterained that a portion of this stolen Jewelrybore the trade name "Princess" and other of the stoleniteas would hear a company tag which consists of the initials"BIB" in a diamond.

By comunication dated March 5, 1974, the DallasOffice of the FBI advised that betveen the hours of 7:00 Pland 12:45 Al, February 15, 1974, Jewelry valued at $24,065,belonging to LEE LIBEBACE, a sell-known nightclub andtelevision entertainer,was stolen from LlBERACE's suiteat the Statler-Hilton Hotel, Dallas, Texas, where he hadbeen registered since February l0, 1974. According to thisDallas communication, at the tune of this burglary, LIBERACEwas performing at the Icfarland Hall Auditorium, Dallas,Texas. The Dallas communication further related that
LlB8RACE's Jewelry, prior to the theft, was maintained inan aluminum suitcase equipped with a combination lock andsubsequent examination determined there was no forcibleentry into LIBERACE's suite or the metal suitcase LIBERACE Q?advised interviewing officers that only he andknow the combination to this suitcase.

On larch 20, 1974, these docunents wereforwarded to the Justice Departmmt and on April 2, 1974,the U. S. AG approved this request.

On the evening of April I7, 1974, ADOLPH LEVIN,doing business as Universal Gem and Jewelry Company, 'Incorporated, Room 604, 5 North Wabash Avenue, was con-tacted at his place of business.
On this occasion when initially contacted, b$P9¢if1 588111? �5 ,alone approachedLEVIN s office, R e , which is equipped with anelectrically operated door lock, and rang the door to gainentry. At that time, through the glass door and windows,snap could observe umu sitting at the 19:1; handde as you enter the premises! facing the corridor. WithLEVIN at that time, with his back to the corridor, wasan unknown fenale cudomer. LEVIN u n hearing the bell,looked up and not recognizing SA 6 approached thedoor where SA �identified himself by displaying hiscredentials. LEWIN upon examining the crecentials, admit-ted the Agents to the premises.
Upon entering the prenis d after againidentifying himself to LEWIN, SA�suggested thatLEVIN finish his business with his customer,
Subsequently, after the customer left the premises,LEWIN was advised that he was under arrest for a violationof the Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property Statute.LEVIN was also advised that a search warrant had been issuedfor the premises and was at that time furnished a copy ofthis search warrant.
