LESSON NOTES: Our Changing Earth
Weather is the condition of the day for a period of time.
Everyone cares about weather. This is because it decides what clothes we will wear today.
The Fiji weather office provides information about weather daily. We receive the news over radio and television.
There are two seasons which affect Fiji’s weather. These are warm and wet season from November to April and cold and dry season from May to October.
Farmer’s plan and plant the crops during these two seasons.
How Living Things Are Affected By Weather?
Weather determines the kinds of food available, the types of shelter needed and how living things carry on their daily activities.
Climate change includes warming temperatures, changes in precipitation, rising sea level which affects many living things.
Less sunlight and cooler temperature cause plants to lose their leaves.
During flooding and cyclone, mostly animals are affected. Animals get trapped and eventually die due to starving.
People get homeless and lose their belongings too. Activity: Answer the following questions. 1. Define weather. Weather is the condition of the day for a period of time. 2. Where can we get information about the weather condition? ___________________________________________________________________________ 3. What is climate change? ___________________________________________________________________________ 4. Who are mostly affected during flooding and cyclone? ___________________________________________________________________________
5. How living things are affected by flooding and cyclone? ___________________________________________________________________________
