A 115 volt, 60 Hz, 15 ampfused electrical supply isrequired. It is recommendedthat a separate circuit, servingonly this appliance, beprovided.

Follow any other local codesor ordinances that may alsoapply.

PLUMBINGINSTRUCTIONS

Step 4For units with automaticicemaker, rough in the watersupply line.

Connect a %" copper line tothe house supply being sure touse an easily accessible shutoff valve between the supplyand your refrigerator(approximately 6" from thecompression fitting). Theicemaker operates on waterpressure of 20 to 100 PSI.NOTE: A line filter isrequired when waterconditions have a highsediment content. Donot use "self piercing'"valves. Saddle valve kit(part #4-20-088-0) availablefrom your distributor.

Route the water line up thruthe floor within _12"from wall,no higher than 3" from floorwhen routed under unit. SeeFigure 5.

UNPACKING

Step 5.Uncrate unit, remove woodbase and die,card the shippingbolts which secure the woodbase to the bottom of the unit.Do not discard wood blockand hardware to be used forblocking your unit.

Toreduce the possibility ofthe unit tipping forward,you must reposition thefront levelers to makecontact with the floor. Youwill have to extend theselegs when the unit is finallypositioned.

Step 6Remove all packing materialsand tape.

GRILLE REMOVAL

Step 7Grille removal is necessaryto access power cord,hook up water line and isrecommended for trans-porting through doorways.

MODELS 511, 532, 542,550 AND 561Remove center grille screwand cut the red nylon shippingstrap. Tilt the grille forwardand release the spring(s) frombehind the grille. See Figure 7.

MODELS 501F AND 501RTo remove the 501 grille,remove two (black) screwslocated in the lowest louver inthe grille. Tilt the bottom of thegrille out and away, it willrelease from the top of thegrille. There is no grille springon 501 Series. See Figure 8.

MODEL 590To remove Model 590 grilleassembly, the inner grillepanel assembly must first beremoved. Lift up (1), then pullout at the bottom (2), then pulltop section down and out ofthe top key slot (3) (as inFigure 9). Next, remove the 5mounting screws that hold theouter grille panel assembly tothe top compartment. SeeFigure 10.

BLOCKING(ALL MODELS)Step 8

I"WARN'NGITohelp prevent the unitfrom tipping forward undercertain load conditionsand provide a more stableinstallation, the unit mustbe secured in place witha solid soffit or woodblock.

ff there is a solid soffitabove the unit withclearance between the unitand the soffit of one inch orless, as illustrated in Figure3, you do not need to blockthe unit. If this is not thecase, YOU MUST BLOCKTHE UNIT.

To block the unit, using thewood block and hardwareprovided, follow these steps.

1) Locate and mark two wallstuds against the wall wherethe refrigerator is to belocated.

2) Locate the proper heightto clear the unit. The spacealong the top of the Sub-Zerobetween the unit and thebottom of the wood blockmust not be greater than1/4_.See Figure 11.

3) Position the wood blockover the unit and secure itusing the screws and "1"brackets provided. Make surescrews extend a minimum of71_,into each of the twowall studs. The wood blockmust extend a minimum e'three inches over the unitSee Figure 11.

4) Using the front and rearlevelers, the unit must beraised until it contacts theWood block. See Figure 12.

All Sub-Zero units aremanufactured in a mannerto achieve a total built-inappearance. This allows youto choose the decorativematerial and color applicationfor the front and sides (ifexposed) for your refrigerator/freezer.

FRONT PANELINSTALLATION

(See "Pre-lnstallationSpecifications" -- for paneldimensions)

If a metal or other thin materialis used, a filler must be in-serted behind your panel toinsure a proper fit. All framesare designed to accept up to114"material. If a raised, woodfront panel is being used, theedges must be routed to thenecessary 114"border specifi-cations. (50# per door panelmaximum weight limit)

NOTE: ROUTING,RECESSING OR OP-TIONAL EXTENDEDHANDLES MAY BEREQUIRED ON RAISEDPANELS FOR FINGERCLEARANCE UNDERHANDLE. Refer to Figures28 and 29 -- "HandleRecess Specificationsand Recommendation forRaised Panels."NOTE: does not apply toModel 590.

MODELS 501F, 501R, 511,532, 542, 550 AND 561A) To install front panels onyour Sub-Zero, the doorhandles must be removed.The handle screws are hiddenby a magnet backed trimmolidng. Remove the moldingusing a piece of tape to pull itaway from the handle andexpose the handle screws.NOTE: the molding willbend at center allowingremoval as in Figure 16.

B) With standard Phillipsscrewdriver, remove doorhandle on freezer andrefrigerator door (the doorhandles also act as a doortrim). The Models 511 and550 freezer door handle iswon the top of the door andremoved in the same mannerdescribed above.

C) Slide panel into frame ondoor as shown in Figure 17.

D) With panel in position,replace handle and screws.Replace the trim molding(s)by inserting the top ar_i thenthe bottom into the handlechannel. Release the middleand set the magnets.

MODEL 590A) To install panels on theModel 590, the door handleand door handle trim must firstbe removed. The screws arehidden by a magnet-backedtrim molding. Remove themolding using a piece of tapeto pull it away from the handleand expose the handlescrews.NOTE: The trim moldingwill bend out at the centerallowing removal as shownin Figure 16.

B) With standard Phillipsscrewdriver, remove doorhandles on freezer and refrig-erator doors (door handlesalso act as a door trim, seeFigure 17).

C) Remove the handle trimpanels by sliding them out ofthe door(s). See Figure 18.NOTE: Different coloredhandle trim panels andglasswells are availablethrough your productdistributor.

D) Next, remove the water andice glasswell by removing themounting screw. Then slidethe glasswell up and pull outas in Figure 18.

E) Remove the top and bottomtrim fillers held on by themounting screw(s). SeeFigure 19.

F) Remove the screwsholding in vertical trim strip.See Figure 19.

G) Install door panels bysliding into frame on dooras shown in Figure 17.

H) With door panels in place,reverse the steps for properreassembly.NO TE: ff replacing standardhandle insert panels andglasswell with original orcustom handle insertpanel or glasewell, refer tostep H.

HINGEADJUSTMENT

Step 16If the doors are out ofadjustment, the top or bottomhinge may be adjusted byremoving and discarding thetwo small shipping screws.See Figure 26. The top doorhinges can be adjusted left toright and in or out by loosen-ing the three allen headscrews. The bottom doorhinge is equipped with twoadjustment allen headscrews. See Figure 27.

For adjustment, use a 118"allen wrench to loosen screws(models 550 and 511 ex-cluded). This allows the doorto move left to right or in andout.NOTE: On Models 532, 542,561, 501R, 501F and 590the doors open to 130 ° .An optional door stop kit(4-20-089-0), which allows adoor opening of approxi-mately 90 ° is available.Contact your distributor.
