As the students took turns speaking, I realized how much fun they had had and how much they had really learned from the experience. I loved to see those students work with reckless abandon on all fronts. If they were cleaning, loading, firing, looking at art, they were working and gaining knowledge at the highest level.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ART MATT LONG

StudyUSA When the Classroom Isn’t a Classroom

Where professors and students share learning adventures across the U.S.

One of the most rewarding experiences at The University of Mississippi is to go on a field trip with students. Such a trip combines education, adventure, and fun, and provides insights that cannot be gained in a traditional classroom—at least not one with four walls and a podium.

Matt Long’s ART398/598: Topics in Art: Ceramics is just one example of the out-of-the-box classes

and learning experiences that have taken students off campus and to the four corners of the United States.
