Study Skills
There has been an immense expectation for young learners to develop a variety of skills in order
to become independent learners, capable of directing their own study and able to critically evaluate
information from many sources. The learners skills in critical thinking must be developed as well as their
skills in personal organization; information retrieval and interpretation have to be nurtured. Therefore,
the development of effective Study Skills has become an increasingly important feature of the education
landscape as the trend towards self-directed, independent learning has gathered pace. Within this
context, where young learners have a world of information at their fingertips, the teachers role is
increasingly seen as that of a guide on the side rather than a sage on the stage.
