Faculty of Dentistry
OVERVIEW
The occupation of Palestinian lands formerly has lead to a deterioration of
health services in general, and this applies to medical services in the field of dentistry.
Therefore the planning for the establishment of this 'college will achieve a number of
goals and includes:
1. To graduate dentists with high qualification to cover the Palestinian market in this
field, whether in the public associations or in he private ones (like clinics hospitals).
2. To develop services for treatment by opening a number of clinics of dentistry at the
university .this will allow students to practice and willpresent services to the Palestinian society.
3. To improve the level of the dentistry by introducing a well educated trained and
qualified graduates to become proficient in the execution of their duties and
knowledgeable about the delivery of dental heath care. o achieve these goals, the
academic program that the college of dentistry adopted requires that each graduate
successfully completes (20_) credit hours through a 5 years period. which is divided
into 3 stages:
1. First stage (pre-clinical stage): Includes the first & second year, in the first year thestudents learn & practice in the fields of general sciences (such as physics, biology,
chemistry..etc).
In the second year the students learn & practice in the field of basic medical sciences
such as (anatomy, physiology, microbiology histology etc) & basic dental sciences
such as (oral histology, oral & teeth, anatomy.etc)
2. Second stage (the transitional stage) : Includes the third year in which the student
learn the laboratory procedures in different dental labs , such as : Conservative lab
and Prosthodontics lab using the patient simulators (phantom heads).
3. Third stage (clinical stage): Includes the later 2 years (fourth and fifth) in which the
students learn & practice in the field of dental sciences (including clinical & field
practice in the different areas of dentistry).
The aauj faculty of dentistry has professors speci:1lizing in different areas of
dentistry who will provide in-service training to practicing dentists .This is done
through workshops, seminars, and conferences to keep dental services in Palestine up
to date and on par with similar services inother countries.
