1294The Ala-ud-din Khilji captured and sacked the fort and city of Jaisalmer.

Rawal Jaisal founded the fort and city of Jaisalmer.

1818

Jaisalmer's Maharawal Mulraj-11 united with the British East India company.

1949the region was given the status of an independent district in Jodhpur division

After Independence, roads network was connected

Railway transportation came.

1750 to 1850 additions to the town included fortifications around the town and the construction of "Havelis".

THE RAJPUT PALACEFour main palaces are there which are

JAISALMER FORT Jaisalmer fort was first built of mud in

1156 A.D. Hill soaring at a height of 76m above the

desert plain. Between 1577 and 1623 three gates

were constructed The fort is the initial settlement, sitting on

top of trikuta hill whereas taleti, or the lower town as it is sometimes called, is the town northeast of the hill

the fort was constructed of 5 elements pitching, slope, outer wall, mori, inner wall

JAIN TEMPLEThere are 8 Jain temples inside the citadel, beginning 2,700 Jain families were living but now 17 families are living.

THE HAVELIS• PATWON HAVELI-constructed by

Jain named Patwa Guman Ghand for his five son in1805

• It has 40 rooms and 66 jharokhas

Nathumal Haveli was built by  kingfs Diwan (minister), Nathumal, in 1885.it has also 40 rooms containing.

Salim singh Haveli was built by Salim singh in 1885-1827

Gadisagar lake is the water source on jaisalmer city.it was built in 1156 by Jaisal.

Sand Dunes that makes the Jaisalmer city glow by its golden yelowish reflection.

It was founded by Amar Singh in 1688. located 7km away from Jaisalmer city

CULTURAL HERITAGEFOLK DANCE Folk music is a vital part of Jaisalmer

culture. Folk songs are commonly ballads

which relate heroic deeds and love stories and religious or devotional.

The music and song depict day-to-day relationships mainly focus on fetching water from wells or ponds.

DESERT FESTIVAL It is celebrate in winter once in a year A unique feature of the Desert Festival

is the camel show The best dressed camel receives an

award from the organizers. The camel dance and camel polo are

some of the other attractions of the Desert Festival.

TRADITIONAL DRESS A Jaisalmer traditional dress for females comprises an

ankle length skirt and a short top. It is also known as a lehenga or a chaniya choli.

It is usually designed in bright colours like blue, yellow and orange.

A piece of cloth is used to cover the head, both for protection from heat and maintenance of modesty
