Brock is one of only nine universities in Canada where you can take beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in both languages every year.

Five reasons to take a LATI or GREE course

1. Better verbal and written communication skills. Learning Latin or Greek improves your vocabulary, grammar and style.

2. Better math skills. Latin and ancient Greek are similar to math: both involve logic and problem solving, and studying one can help with the other.

3. Reduced stress and better grades in other subjects. Students who take an ancient language master the basics of other subjects faster. Chemistry, biology, astronomy, geology, law, medicine and political science all have roots in Latin and Greek.

4. Increased ability to learn other languages. With a background in Latin or ancient Greek, related languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Greek) as well as unrelated languages (German, Russian, Japanese) can be learned more easily.

5. Small class sizes help build community. Latin and Greek classes are small — you have direct interaction in every class with a professor who knows your name and learning needs. You’ll also get to know other students who have similar interests. You’ll never be just a number.
