We are delighted that in its 13th edition, our annual higher education

fair Study In Europe sees an all-time high participation of 15 European

countries. This reflects the growing interest in the various education options

available across Europe. Our fair this year comes on the back of our

deepening engagement with students and youth in Singapore. From May

to July several European Ambassadors and senior diplomats reached

out to over 10,000 students through their school visits that were part of

the inaugural EU@Your School Project. I would like to thank my fellow

Ambassadors and Singapore’s Ministry of Education for their unstinting

support for this initiative.

Study in Europe continues the important conversation that started in schools earlier this year. Participating

countries once again present a diverse array of study courses throughout Europe. The programmes on offer at

European universities bring together students from all over the world. The intent is to assist students in fostering

closer networks not just with universities but also with the countries they choose to study in.

Our popular annual higher education fair is an opportunity to connect students in Singapore with

European universities and provide them with first hand and easy access to useful information about the wide

variety of study options in Europe, details of the application processes, and the range of bond-free scholarships

which they may apply for. The fair provides information about the many European universities where courses

are conducted in English and where the option to work part-time while studying is available. This year, we have

the pleasure of working with Finnair, which is offering youth air fares as well as a ticket to Europe for one

lucky winner who attends the fair. This gives young people more opportunities to travel to Europe.

2019 marks the 32nd year of the EU’s student exchange programme Erasmus+, which enables university students

to study or intern in another country. It is very good news that a proposal to double the Erasmus+ budget for

2021-2027 is currently under consideration. Once approved, this can open up more opportunities for youth to

truly experience Europe. Erasmus+ funding includes support for education and training of staff, youth workers,

and partnerships between universities, colleges, schools, enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations.

2019 also marks the fifth year of the ASEAN-EU project ‘Supporting Higher Education in the ASEAN Region’,

or SHARE. Funded by the European Union with EUR 10 million, SHARE has already provided 400 scholarships

for ASEAN students to study in other ASEAN countries, replicating the Erasmus+ intra-EU scholarship scheme.

European countries participating in this year’s fair are: Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland,

Italy, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. We will

have several education experts present at #EUSIE19 to tell you lots more about studying in Europe. I hope that

all those who are looking at further education options in Europe will find both the fair as well as the information

provided in this booklet useful.
