BacktrackStereo audio switcher

The Backtrack™ is a compact stereo audio switcher, perfect for bands running redundant backing tracks on stage. Connect both source devices to the Backtrack via ¼” or 3.5mm con-nectors, and switch between them or mute them altogether using the front panel controls or a JR-2 remote footswitch. A headphone output with level control allows you to check either input at any time, and ¼” monitor outputs feed powered speakers for playback on stage. Dual XLR outputs feed the PA system and feature a ground lift switch and transformer isolation to prevent buzz and hum from ground loops. The Backtrack lets you easily connect a laptop computer, MP3 player, or recording interface and ensure that even if your primary backing track source fails, the show still goes on.

Studio-QCompact talk-back solution

With more and more recording happening in smaller studios, the need for a simple talkback system has become evident. Yes, there are other cue systems on the market, but most have too many features, are too costly, or are too large. The Studio-Q presents a desktop solution that manages to do it all in a super-compact design.

The Studio-Q™ begins with a simple cue switch that turns on the built-in microphone or the ‘producer’ mic XLR input. Each mic is equipped with an individual trim control along with a master mic volume. These can also be remotely activated using a remote JR-1 footswitch. Once depressed, the signal is routed to the studio headphone system while it automatically shunts the program to the desired level. The program signal path is balanced for easy inte-gration with any console with fully variable level control on the front panel. When the band is full-on, a remote output may be used to send a dry contact to a beacon and attract atten-tion. This can also be set with DC power to accommodate an LED beacon.

The clarity is quite remarkable, with immense de-tail in the high frequencies, especially when using something like a Neumann U87. This can seem almost over-bearing with some vocalists and have you reaching for a warmer mic. But the low end is also extremely fulsome. It has a touch of musical enhancement you get with an API, but a fairly neutral and responsive translation of the mic’s character (like a Maselec or Millennia), with some enhanced high frequency detail. The DI input is wonderfully fluid, and bass guitar sounded huge and present, clearer than anything else I compared. “

MIX 2:1Passive stereo summing mixer

The MIX 2:1™ is a simple yet highly useful mixer that passively sums two audio chan-nels down to one. This enables you to easily sum the stereo outputs of a console, record-ing interface, or portable playback device down to mono. You can also combine two separate signals, matching the input levels between them. Inputs can be accessed via XLR or ¼” connectors, allowing you to use balanced or unbalanced sources. Hafler ha75-dacCombined USB DAC and tube headphone amp

The Hafler HA75 tube driven headphone amp has already received critical acclaim from many of the ‘golden ears’ of the recording industry, including Alan Parsons, Chuck Ainlay, and Frank Filipetti. The new HA75-DAC™ adds a USB DAC for digital audio playback at up to 192 kHz resolution, and includes a load impedance selector that allows users to choose the optimal impedance for their headphones. The key to the HA75-DAC is still the on-board 12AX7 tube, which provides subtle but pleasing tube character, while also introducing natu-ral compression when pushed hard. Also included is the innovative Focus control, which can be dialed in to simulate the effect of listening to live speakers. The HA75-DAC also features analog inputs, with both XLR and RCA connections, to allow the perfect blend of analog and digital in one outstanding headphone amplifier.

David Hafler pioneered the use of MOSFETs during the 1970s as a means to approach the sonic character of tubes and transition to the more practical side of discrete solid-state electronics. Lateral MOSFETs were designed specifically for linear audio amplification with their high speed and superior sonic characteristics compared to the vertical MOSFETs or bipolar output transistors used by many other amplifier mak-ers. Inside the P3100™ is the latest refinement of the trans-nova circuit that was developed by industry guru Jim Strickland. The trans-nova circuit squeezes the most out of every component to reduce the gain stages down to three in lieu of the five typically employed by others. The shorter path results in a much more open sounding and realistic sound stage.

In use the Hafler P3100 is rich in detail, depth of field and musicality. With 150 watts of available power per channel at 8 Ohms and 200 watts at 4 Ohms, the P3100 has plenty of headroom to drive the most power-hungry loudspeakers. Balanced outputs with trim control allow for connection to microphone or line level inputs on any PA system. A headphone output is provided to test the audio output before connection to the PA. The FCC approved BT-Pro offers stereo reception up to 30’ (10 meters) from the source using the A2DP interface over 2.0 EDR and converts to analog ensuring the best audio quality.
