The Figure Studio

 This is an introduction class on the basics of mold making. Molds are used tomake replicas of original art work, as well as for reproduction of commercialobjects. This class will discuss the variety of options in materials for moldmaking. We will focus on a two part molds. We will use plaster as the moldmaterial and the replica will be made of clay. All materials are included forclass. You will be amazed at the possibilities!!!

Fusing & Slumping Glass This class is an introduction to the wonderful world of kiln-formed glass. Layers of compaible glass are fused together to create artistic objects including jewelry, tiles and pictureframes. Glass can also be slumped into or over molds to create barrettes, small plates,and votive candleholders. Glass cutting, compatibility testing, use of “frits” (crushed

glass) and metal inclusions are among the techniques presented in addition to informa-tion on the use of kilns and ring processes. More advanced projects will be available tocontinuing students. A supply list will be given out at the rst class meeting.

ADULT CLASS

Stained GlassCapture the beauty of light passing through colored glass by creating a stained glass panel. A brief review of the history of stained glass ispresented to show the vast possibilities of the use of glass art. This class will include both the traditional leaded technique as well as the “Tif-fany” method of copper foil. Instruction is offered in glass cutting, leading, foiling, soldering, puttying and use of patina; students will be able

to complete a panel of approximately one square foot in size. A supply list will be given out at the rst class meeting.

Stained Glass LabParticipants who don’t need instructions are welcome to work on their individ-ual projects. A lab monitor is present for set-up/break-down and to ensure labsafety. You must have taken Stained Glass class for 3 sessions. New participantswho have extensive knowledge of the safety and prep procedure can meet withthe Glass Coordinator to waive the requirements. Once in the lab, it is importantto follow any directions stated, posted, and respect other students artwork. There is no storage space. You must provide your own glass. There are StudioOne stock tools.

 The camera obscura is a very old idea, rst built around 1000AD inwhat is now Iraq. A variation on the concept is the pinhole camera.Pinhole cameras can easily be made of almost anything. All it needa lightproof box. In this workshop we will to make your own pinholcamera and print photos. Due to the tiny hole used in these camera

Watercolor This class is for both beginners and continuing watercolorists and offers an opportunity to work in an informal environmentwith continual demonstration and individual support / help from the instructor. Expect the presentation of a great varietyof techniques and watercolor applications. The instructor is skilled in a wide range of subject areas, and favors exuberant,vibrant painting of all genres. Please bring to rst class a sketch pad (for Beginners) and painting supplies (continuingpainters.) Materials list @ rst class.

Beginning Painting This course covers the fundamentals of learning to paint. You can paint with oil, acrylic or gouache. Color fundamentals suchas color wheel, color mixing, and shading will be covered. Classic genres of painting (still life, gurative and landscape)will be explored. At end of course students will have one session with a live model. Some acrylic paints are provided by thecenter. All oil painters must bring their own materials. We start by preparing canvases, so come to rst class with four sets of

small (10” x 12”) stretcher bars, canvas, and a cheap brush to apply gesso. Gesso is provided. Oil painters must usenon-toxic materials such as turpenoid instead of turpentine. Other materials will be discussed at rst class.All levels welcome.
