Welcome Week at NDSUWelcome Week is the best way to spend your first few days on campus. The events give many opportunities to meet other new students, faculty and staff; become familiar with campus; and have fun. You will be assigned to a group led by a knowledgeable student Welcome Week leader. Groups will attend events together and discuss everything you need to know before classes start. Attendance at some events is required, and there are a variety of recommended events.

Download the “NDSU Welcome Week” app from either the App Store or Google Play to know your individualized and customizable schedule, map and more.

RESOURCES

Guideapp

Guide is a mobile app for students, designed to help you manage your work and connect effectively with activities and resources at NDSU. Guide provides you with convenient access to your class schedule, faculty and adviser contact information, and appointment scheduling. Use the GPS features to find your classes. The app also offers individualized to-do lists, tips for success and reminders when a registration hold needs to be taken care of. Simply download the app by searching for “Guide College Simplified” in Google Play or the App Store and log in with your existing NDSU electronic ID and password.”

AceTutoring

ACE Tutoring and Quiet Study is an academic support program which is available to all enrolled NDSU undergraduate students at no extra cost. Students can use the drop-in services to meet with tutors for more than 100 different courses, join a study group or use one of the many group or individual study rooms. Study skill workshops also are offered throughout the semester to cover topics such as procrastinating, improving concentration and studying for exams. ACE has about 40,000 visits per year and data has shown that students who regularly visit ACE report higher cumulative GPAs. ACE is located in the lower level of the West Dining Center. It is open Sundays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. For more information, email [email protected].”

CounselingCenter

Counseling is a collaborative process that involves the development of a unique relationship. The NDSU Counseling Center’s trained mental health professionals will help you understand your feelings, behaviors, relationships, problems, choices and decisions. Discussion helps you reach a greater level of awareness and gives you the power to make choices and take actions in all areas of your life. To learn more, visit www.ndsu.edu/counseling, stop by the center in Ceres 212 or call 701-231-7671. During the academic year, the office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. After normal business hours, a counselor is on call to help in crisis situations. Calling 231-7671 will automatically connect you with help.

Campus Safety

NDSUPERSONALSAFETYANDSECURITYASSISTThis service is available 24/7 on or off campus to help you reach your destination safely.

Provided by the University Police and Safety Office, it uses a smartphone security app called Pathlight. You enter your destination, select how long you think it will take to get there and click “Follow Me Now.” NDSU dispatchers are able to determine your location on a computer map, and if you do not reach your destination within the time frame you designated, or if you swipe “SLIDE FOR HELP,” the NDSU Police will respond. You also can call a dispatcher at any time by pressing the telephone number, 701-231-8998 at the bottom of the app screen.

The app only monitors you when you want it to; if you don’t open and activate Pathlight, it cannot be used to determine your location. Regardless of what you’re doing, a responding officer’s primary concern will be your safety.

NDSU Personal Safety and Security Assist complements NDSU’s in-person Campus Safety Escort Service.

M.Russell (Senior, Strategic Communications)- “I love NDSU because it truly has a place for everyone. No matter what your interests are, you can get involved and find lifelong friends.”

J.Bateman (Sophomore, Business Administration)- “NDSU is a great place to further your education, and a great place to meet people. Make sure to introduce yourself to your neighbors too, because some of my good friends are dorm neighbors.”

J.Kohls (Sophomore, Construction Engineering)- “I love NDSU because the campus community is small enough so you can get to know a ton of people and get wherever you’d like within five minutes. Sporting events are always a blast too. Roll herd!”

D.Fettig (Senior, Psychology)- “With very little prior experience to Fargo, I found that the community was so welcoming both on campus and off. Finding people I could relate to and things to do has been so wonderful, and I would never trade my experience here at NDSU for anything.”

W.Odland (Sophomore, Civil Engineering)- “The ideal size and numerous opportunities NDSU has to offer helped me get involved, meet new people and succeed academically during my freshman year.”

R.Rapp (Senior, Civil Engineering)- “I love NDSU because it truly feels like a home. All of the students, faculty and staff help create an atmosphere where I feel comfortable and able to be myself. I couldn’t see myself anywhere but NDSU.”

B.Chase (Sophomore, Strategic Communications)- “Finding a place to call home for the next four years was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. After one year at NDSU, I am proud to say I made the right decision. I can’t wait for what lies in store for the next three.”

ChaseGrindberg - Student Body President (Senior, Crop and Weed Sciences)- “I truly think NDSU is the best university in the country. The best characteristic of the university is the Bison community. Everyone strives to help students excel in whatever endeavor they pursue.”

MarisaPacella - Student Body Vice-President (Senior, Hospitality and Tourism Management)- “For the past three years, I have been proud to call NDSU home. It has given me the means to grow as a leader and the skills to succeed after college. To be a student here is much more than simply attending classes, it is being a part of the Bison Family.
