Home study activitySing May I Come In? with your child. Take turns singing both parts. Practice the conversation. Go inside a room and close the door. Have your child knock on the door and say May I come in? Answer Sure! Please come in! Switch roles and you knock and ask the question. Play a game with your child. When you say Go, your child runs toward you and must stop when you say Stop. Continue saying Go and Stop until your child reaches you. Switch roles.

Start slowly and then speed up until you are counting as fast as you can. Then have your child find dolls, bears, cars, trains, and other toys around the house and put them into piles. Ask your child to count the (trains). Help your child count the items.

Home study activitySing the How Many? song together with your child. Have your child cut out 10 of each of the shapes (squares, hearts, stars, circles, triangles) from different colored pieces of paper and put them into piles of each shape. Pick up some of one kind of shape and hand the shapes to your child. Ask How many? and have your child count the shapes. Your child will answer with a number. Switch roles and have your child pick up some of the shapes and ask the question. You can also review the colors and the shapes.

Home study activityHave your child practice saying the letters (Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll) and beginning sounds with you. Ask your child to sing The Alphabet Song along with the audio. Have your child draw pictures of the phonics words and write the first letter of the word under each picture. Point to each picture and say the words with your child, helping your child to listen carefully to the sound of the first letter. Listen to The IJKL Chant and chant it together.

Count together with your child. Take turns. Then have your child find pencils, a pencil box, and a book in your house. Tell your child Put away your pencils. and help your child put them in the pencil box. Then say Please open your book. Switch roles and have your child give the commands. Practice the other verb phrases together with your child, using please with each verb. (Walk. Run. Go. Stop).
