TRICIA DIEHL

My introduction for LDRD 609

“Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” ― Albert Einstein

I have always been a fan of Albert

Einstein and that particular quote

says a great deal about who I am –

someone always ready to learn. I

hold a B.A. in Applied Psychology

(with an emphasis in criminal

behavior) and a Master of Education

degree in Adult Learning, both of

which I have earned from City

University.

I am excited to have begun my journey

towards obtaining my Doctorate in

Organizational Leadership. Needless to

say, I am an alumna that fully supports

the mission and vision of City U.

I was a federal law enforcement officer in the United States Forest Service for a little over 22 years. A significant part of my duties included designing team training plans to coordinate community relations events, safety training programs for the community (bear safety was my specialty).

I am currently a volunteer teacher at a state work-release center. A work-release center exists as a transitional facility for qualified offenders to learn education skills and training before being released back into society. The curriculum I have developed focuses primarily on improving my students reading and comprehension skills.

Part of my motivation for pursuing this degree involves learning the methods and skills necessary to more actively engage local businesses and organizations in developing a partnership with the department of corrections to increase the effectiveness of the work programs currently in place. I believe a partnership such as this will provide more benefits to society than many may realize.

On a personal note, my husband of 37 years is also enrolled in the M.Ed. program here at City U.  We live in Bremerton, Washington. My other interests include baseball, football “Go Hawks!” and film noir.

I’m looking forward to learning with all of you, Tricia
