AP-mail

All students receive at the beginning of their studies, an AP login, e-mail address and a mailbox. The AP-mail is composed as follows: [email protected] (E.g. [email protected]) Teachers have an email address in the following format: [email protected]. Your AP-mail is considered to be an official means of communication between administration, teachers and students, so all important information will be sent via this e-mail address. Check the mailbox daily and empty it regularly. You can check your mail by surfing to https://webmail.ap.be. or via web-mail under http://start.ap.be/. As a new student, you will receive the password together with your login when you sign your study contract. You can also apply for it at the reception. You can change your password via https://wachtwoord.ap.be/. If you forgot the password then there is the link: "Reset my AP password". Via this web page, a new password will be sent to your private e-mail address. For more information, look at http://ictpedia.ap.be/index.php/E-mail You can also have your AP-mail forwarded to your private email address. Blackboard

Blackboard is the electronic learning environment of Artesis Plantijn University College. You may enter it via https://blackboard.ap.be or through the Blackboard-link on http://start.ap.be/ Access it with your AP-login and password. On Blackboard you find the following tabs: Meldingen (messages), Lesmateriaal (course material), Studenteninformatie (Student information), and content collection. Home, My teaching materials (Mijn lesmateriaal), Info Students AP and Info Students KCA and Content Collection. On the homepage of Blackboard, after signing up, you will always get an overview of what is new and is applicable to you, both for courses and organizations. Under ‘Lesmateriaal’ you will find ‘Mijn cursussen’ (course material) and ‘Mijn organisaties’

Under ‘cursussen’ you will find the content of the subjects you enrolled for. Teachers can use ‘cursussen’ for: – posting course material (documents, visuals, videos or sound fragments) – giving out and receiving assignments – taking tests/exams. You can also use it to communicate with your teacher or fellow students. Under ‘Mijn organisaties’ you can find other practical information about the conservatoire and your education (e.g. regulations,, timetables, examination schedules, ... In “content collection” you may post documents up to 50 MB. In some programmes this is the place to keep your portfolio. A manual for Blackboard and other ICT applications can be found under Courses - Blackboard for students. For questions / problems you can contact the coordinator Blackboard. Campus

The Royal Conservatoire’s site is part of a campus that also houses deSingel Internationale Kunstcampus and a number of cultural organisations: Sabbattini, Vlaams Architectuurinstituut (VAi), Eastman, Champ d'Action, I Solisti del Vento, detheatermaker, Spiegel String Quartet, Jeugd en Muziek Antwerpen, Studiecentrum voor Vlaamse Muziek and Radio 2. All over the campus there is a general no-smoking policy . At several places outdoors you find ashtrays for the convenience of smokers. We urge everyone to adhere to this policy and to limit smoking to the designated spots. Violation of these rules may be punished, damages will be paid for by offenders.

Stynen Oost

At the left of the main entrance, contains the offices of the dean, the registrar, the secretariat, personnel and financial administration, students’ registration, communications coordinator, conference room, foyer, Zwarte Zaal, head of music and head of teachers’ training programmes, class rooms 101-140, 204-230, 303-312, jazz-classrooms.

Stynen West

Contains the main entrance with the reception and, to the right of the main entrance the office of jazz/popular music, the student counsellor, care coordinator, computer class, class rooms 54-60, 149-154, 160-164…

Toren (the tower)

Contains the library and the 7th floor with the research office, costume storage, production venues, class rooms 710, 711 and 712.

Main stages

Contains Blauwe zaal, Rode zaal, Blauwe foyer, Rode foyer.

Beel laag

Low rise section with the reading room, Grand Café deSingel, Vlaams Architectuurinstituut, deSingel’s Muziekstudio,Theaterstudio, expo venue, dance studio and technical and auxiliary spaces

Beel hoog

3rd, 4th and 5th floor containing Gele zaal, Witte zaal, Witte foyer, class rooms 315-501 (dance, drama, percussion), First Aid and Physiotherapy, fitness, changing rooms for students and teachers and Production office.

Backstage

Contains offices of dance, drama, Sabbattini, maintenance, conference room, stage door deSingel, deSingel’s Kleine zaal, dressing rooms and ‘artiestenfoyer’.

Class rooms, venues and APHO

From Monday to Friday, during school weeks and exam peri ods , you can use available class rooms and venues for studying and rehearsing. Reservations must be made directly through ‘Apho’ , the software that manages the logistics. Please note that only reservations registered in Apho are valid. On weekdays the school is open from 8h till 23h. On Friday the school is open from 8h till 18h. In certain holidays and long weekends, the school is open between 09h00 - 16h00, check in due time the screens for more information. Additionally studying and rehearsing at the conservatoire is possible during weekends within the boundaries of what is available and between 12h and 18h. Students must make a non-recurrent application via an application form to the head of their programme. To use any room or venue on the days given above, you always make a reservation through the reception, no later than 16h of the foregoing Thursday.

Reservation of a room or venue

1 Open Apho via a link on the desk top of any computer in the conservatoire or via https://e-campus.ap.be. Select an available room.

2 In Apho every room or venue has its responsible, main purpose, reservation codes and possible users. As a student, you can view only the rooms that you have access to.

3 You can only reserve a room for the very day of booking, per block of maximally 2 hours. 4 Students of dance, drama, jazz/popular music, organ, and percussion will find in Apho

longer periods for their specific venues (Jazz: room 226, 227, 228, 230, 212). These rooms can be reserved two weeks in advance.

5 When you leave a room you are expected to turn off the light and close the windows. 6 Reservations with a half hour in between to extend the rehearsal time will be automatically

corrected. 7 Reservations are personal and accounts cannot be interchanged. 8 It is strictly forbidden to do other activities in the room than personal study (e.g. to teach for

own account etc.). 9 Reservations may only be cancelled by the student who originally booked it.

Access to class rooms and venues For the zones Stynen-West and Stynen-Oost students pick up the key to the reserved room at the reception. In return they hand in their student ID. - If nobody is present, the key must be deposited in the hole at the reception desk - The keys cannot leave the building in any case. If this happen due to exceptional

circumstances please contact the reception AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (03 / 244 18 00) and return the key.

- Keys should not be left in the room. You close the room and bring back the key OR ask the student card from your successor and exchange this card for your own card at the reception.

Production venues De Zwarte zaal, Gele zaal, Witte zaal, and rooms 57 and 435 are production venues. They can only be reserved with the production office, by the coordinators of the various programmes. Usage of production venues, including weekends, off icial holidays, bank holidays and vacations are assigned by: Ann Lommelen: Witte zaal, room 57, deSingel venues Sumalin Gijsbrechts: Zwarte zaal, Gele zaal, room 435.

Recording studio

Students can apply for using the recording studio for projects within their study programme. CONTACT > [email protected]

Corridors

Corridors, staircases and fire escapes are no classrooms. They need to be kept empty and clean as thoroughfare and possible escape routes. They should definitely not be used as temporary or permanent parking space for furniture and other objects

Computers, software and ICT code of conduct

Computer Classroom

There are computers with Internet access installed in the computer classroom, Stynen West (beside the student counselling room) and in the alcove by the staff room (1st floor, Stynen Oost) and in the reading room. The computers are free for use, unless lessons are being given. In the multimedia room there are about ten computers available for students and externals. Large parts of the building are equipped with WIFI.

Earmaster

Through Earmaster students may practice aural training individually. The programme can be found on the desktop of all computers in the school.

Buying a laptop

We have noticed that a lot of students ask us where they can buy a good laptop at an interesting price. As a student at Artesis Plantijn University College, you can buy a laptop tailored to your needs with AcademicShop.be and CampusShop.be. All laptops are models which are produced for a business environment, so they are much more durable than your average consumer model. Sadly, for Apple-devices we cannot offer you any extra discount besides the standard student discount. Laptops from AcademicShop.be can be found on http://ap.academicshop.be. Buying software

ICT code of conduct

By enrolling at Artesis Plantijn University College you have agreed to adhere to the ICT code of conduct. In those rules you can find what your rights and obligations are in relation to ICT at AP. Concerts and performances

The Royal Conservatoire Antwerp collaborates closely with the international arts campus (kunstcampus) deSingel. This creates an exchange between presenting, creating and accessing the performing arts, across the different disciplines. Studying at the conservatoire

puts the students in touch with these international and interdisciplinary trends. Besides, students pay no more than € 5 for attending concerts and performances. Students are also regularly invited to attend a concert for free. You receive these invitations through your AP-mail. You reserve and pick up your tickets at the box office the day of the concert/ performance, which opens Mondays to Fridays, from 10h to 19h and Saturdays from 16h to 19h. You pay at the box office, preferably in cash. Regularly deSingel invites student students to concerts for free. You receive a message of this at you AP-email address. More information on the program can be found at www.desingel.be where you can also obtain deSingel’s seasons brochure. The conservatoire and its affiliated Stichting Conservatorium, Vrienden Conservatorium Antwerpen and the Concertvereniging Conservatorium Antwerpen, together with Internationale Kunstcampus deSingel organize an annual series of concerts and performances to confirm their association with different partners. These events are private occasions and strictly on invitation. Please, make sure you respect this privacy. The Concertvereniging Conservatorium Antwerpen yearly organises 8 Sunday morning concerts in de Witte zaal. Students have free admission to these concerts.

Curriculum Concerts

Students who are registered for ‘Jazz History 1 or 2’ have to attend five selected ‘curriculumconcerten’. They have to write a reflection of each of these concerts: 26/10/2016 , De Roma, John Scofield: Country for Old Men (John Scofield, Larry Goldings, Steve Swallow, Bill Stewart) 8/12/2016, deSingel, 20u00: Budapest Festival Orchestra olv Ivan Fischer, Leonidas Kavakos, viool: Schubert, Bartók 22/11/2016, De Roma, Frank Woeste Quartet feat. Dave Douglas (Frank Woeste, Yasushi Nakamura, Clarence Penn, Dave Douglas) 17/02, De Roma, Brad Mehldau trio 22/02, De Roma, Liz Wright Tickets will be distributed the evening of the concert by an employee of the Conservatoire and are already paid together with your registration fee. Besides these selected concerts, you also have to attend four concerts of your own choice and also write reflections about these concerts. These reflections are part of the exam of Jazz History 1 or 2. More info and contact: [email protected]

Enrolment foreign students

Students for whom a visa is required

Students from countries that requires them to apply for a visa are requested to submit a Belgian residence permit for minimally the duration of the academic year. They will be registered temporarily under Article 9.1. These students must, under dissolving condition, submit before 1st of May 2017 a residence permit, valid for at least the duration of the academic year. This will secure their enrolment. In all other cases these students will be unregistered from 1st of May 2017.

Students who do not need a visa and who have the in tention to seek domicile in Antwerp

All foreign students, incoming Erasmus students and regularly enrolling foreign students, who aim to seek domicile in Antwerp and who haven’t as yet registered with the City of Antwerp’s Foreigners Desk, must follow the procedure “Loket buitenlandse studenten”. These students are required to register at the students’ registration office in order to initiate this procedure before 31st of October 2016 when enrolling in the full academic year, or before 1st of March 2017 when enrolling in the second semester only.

Students who do not need a visa and who seek domici le outside Antwerp

All foreign students, incoming Erasmus students and regularly enrolling foreign students, who do not aim to seek domicile in Antwerp, are requested to register with the municipal Foreigners’ Desk of the community where they aim to seek domicile.

Erasmus and internationalization

Through the Erasmus programme you can get educational experience abroad. However, before you pack your bags, a number of administrative and organizational requirements must be dealt with. For example, your application must get a permission both from your school and from the one you want to visit . This process may take some time. Be sure to start it in time. More information on Erasmus can be found on Blackboard.

Foyer and kitchen

The Foyer is the place for a quick snack, a lunch and a hot meal. There are vending machines for soft drinks, sweets and coffee, and there are a few microwave ovens for heating up your food. You pay cash or with your bank card. Students, AP personnel and visitors pay different prices. When you are ready, always clear your table, sort out your waste and deposit it in the garbage bins. Don’t take any dishes or cutlery out of the Foyer. Use for that purpose the plastic disposables that are provided. The Foyer is open Mondays to Fridays 09h to 23h. The kitchen and counter are open daily 09h to 15h.

You can consult your personal academic file via https://ibamaflex.ap.be or via the link iBaMaFlex on http://start.ap.be Log in with your AP login and corresponding password. By logging in on iBaMaflex, you can consult and print your re-enrollment, admission agreement (e-mailbox), study credit, training and exam results, .... More information about iBaMaFlex can be found in the manual for students on Blackboard.

Library

The library is located in de Toren (the 7 story tower), it is divided over the fourth, the fifth (lending service) and the sixth (collection) floors and in Beel laag (reading room on floor 2 ½) . Students receive a free membership card for the library, which can be collected in the reading room and in the lending service.

Parking

Always put your bike in the bicycle shed provided for it, on the right-hand side of the entrance. This is an unattended bicycle shed, so always lock your bike. Students who come by car cannot buy a season ticket for parking on the campus. To drop your instrument, you can park free for 45 minutes. Leave your instrument at the reception and look for a parking space in the neighbourhood. There is parking space on the large parking lot along the Desguinlei, past the intersection of deSingel direction south, at 5 minutes walking distance. Do not leave any valuables in your car.

Photocopies

AP University College provides for students to print and copy at democratic prices. How this is done, you can read on http://ictpedia.ap.be/index.php/Betalend_printen You must, however, have your student card. This card is only available if your enrolment is completed. In the conservatoire, you can make photocopies in the computer class, reading room Beel and lending library 5th floor. The reception does not make photocopies for students!

Pigeonholes

All students of Dance, Drama and Music have an individual pigeonhole in the hallway between rooms 101 and 103. Please, check and empty it regularly.

Public transport and Velo

The conservatoire is easily accessible by public transport (stop at deSingel). From the Central Station you can take tramline 2 or 6. From the Antwerp-Zuid Station it is a 15 minute walk along the Desguinlei. You can also take bus 22 on Groenplaats. The bike rental system Velo allows you to travel short distances in the city. The system covers 150 bike terminals between the Binnensingel (the circular road of which Desguinlei is a stretch) and Antwerp leftbank. Bikes can be picked up and returned at the terminals. After registration you can apply for a day pass or week pass. Year passes are presently unavailable. The nearest terminals are at the very conservatoire on the Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, at the Wezenberg public swimming pool (next door) and Hof van Leysen (www.velo-antwerpen.be).

Reception

The reception of the conservatoire will provide you with all practical information. Please use all information channels and check the notice boards, Blackboard and Apho screen at the reception before asking information. The reception is open Mondays to Thursdays, during school weeks and exam periods from 8h till 20h and on Fridays from 8h till 18h. Secretariat

The secretariat can be called upon for all matters concerning students. The offices are located on the ground floor, in Stynen Oost. The secretariat is open Mondays to Fridays, from 9h to 13h during school weeks and during exam periods.

Student council and SPHINX Party club

Student council

The conservatoire’s student council is the council that represents the interests of students of all disciplines. The council has a delegation in the School of Arts’ council and in STUVO AP.

Sphinx

The SPHINX Students’ Party club brings together students from all sections of the conservatoire and organises parties, concerts, BBQ’s and the like. Sphinx also runs the White foyer. You can sign up with them as a bartender. https://www.facebook.com/StuRaadKCA

Student services

STUVO AP stands for Student Services AP University College Antwerp and provides various facilities for students of AP University College. Contact the Student Services when you encounter financial and socials difficulties, for a student job, culture and sport facilities, help for housing, … You can find information on all their services on the website or in the student agenda.
