MESSAGE FROM THE

MANAGING DIRECTORWelcome to the Yanbu English Language Institute (YELI). As a global language, English represents a social, linguistic, political, cultural, intellectual and economic resource. In the 21st century, the worldwide demand for competent English language users has resulted in a critical need for high quality education for English language learners all over the world. This continuing global demand for English education has led our Institute to adopt a paradigm of ‘learning how to learn’ in its curricula in order to appropriate English instruction proactively in the interests of our various clients.

YELI, which operates under the umbrella of the Royal Commission Colleges and Institutes (RCYCI) at Yanbu, has been established to offer intensive English language programs/courses to the community of Yanbu Al-Sinayia, including RCYCI, and prospective clients who reside outside Yanbu city. Our internationally recognized institute provides a wide range of courses in general English as well as English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and its emerging branches, such as English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Vocational Purposes (EVP) and English for Occupational Purposes (EOP), to name a few. We also offer a variety of training sessions on several international English language exams (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) as well as on technical and professional writing and editing.

Our highly qualified, experienced and culturally diverse language educators, together with our well equipped classrooms, language labs, English club, gifted student programs, writing labs and writing center have created at YELI an environment conducive to English instruction. Our curricula, that are developed according to the principles of reconstructionism and progressivism, are designed to enable our students to move from learning in order to display knowledge in English to learning in order to construct knowledge through knowledge.

With the geopolitical reality of the globalization of English, new movements in digital communication and world Englishes, the silent characteristic of English as an international language (EIL) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is now emerging. Hence, our YELI research group has been making tremendous efforts, through research, publications and participation in local and international conferences, to keep abreast of up-to-date English p e d a g o g i e s , a n d a t t h e s a m e t i m e to accommodate the constantly changing needs of its clients.

يسعدني ويطيب لي أن أرحب بكم في معهد اللغة اإلنجليزية ينبع.

تــــعد الــــلغة اإلنجــــليزيــــة - بــــصفتها لــــغة عــــاملــــية - مــــورداً اجــــتماعــــياً ولــغويــاً وســياســياً وثــقافــياً وفــكريــاً واقــتصاديــاً. وفــي الــقرن الــحادي والعشــريــن ظهــرت حــاجــة عــاملــية مــلحة لــضرورة وجــود مــتخصصني فـي الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة ، األمـر الـذي يـتطلب تـجويـد الـعلمية الـتعليمية

لدارسي اللغة اإلنجليزية في جميع أنحاء العالم.

Our Educational Philosophy The curriculum of the YELI is based on the philosophy of learning how to learn and is designed to enable our learners to move from learning in order to display knowledge to learning in order to c o n s t r u c t k n o w l e d g e t h r o u g h knowledge. Why YELI? Yanbu English Language Institute (YELI) is one of the largest English language training facilities in the Kingdom, and home to a highly qualified faculty from around the world. The YELI received accreditation from the prestigious US-based CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) in 2012 and was awarded accreditation by Europe-based Eaquals in the summer of 2016.

Applicable to all its programs, from the Foundation Program to the English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes programs, this accreditation is the first for any English language institution in the Kingdom.

What at YELI? YELI offers an intensive Foundation English program for students of all institutions within the RCYCI, no matter what their skill level in English. As a student studying at the YELI you will enjoy high quality instruction and personal attention from our highly skilled teachers from around the world, delivered through a rigorous and proven course of English language study.

This course of study will take you through a carefully designed series of steps intended to meet your developing English language needs during your study at the YELI and beyond.

For students studying at YIC, once you exit the Foundation Program, there are English courses available and built into the Associate and Bachelor degree programs to further hone your English proficiency.

At every step of the way, the YELI Student Affairs Committees will be with you to help make your life at the YELI much easier and rewarding. We are for you and with from your orientation day till your last day at YELI.


ملاذا معهد اللغةاإلنجليزية بينبع؟

يــعد معهــد الــلغة اإلنجــليزيــة بــينبع واحــداً مــن أكــبر مــرافــق الــتدريــب عــلى الــلغة اإلنجــليزيــة فــي املــملكة، وكــذلــك هــومــوطــناً ألعــضاء هــيئة الــتدريــس املـــؤهـــلني تـــأهـــيالً عـــالـــياً مـــن جـــميع أنـــحاء الـــعالـــم. وقـــد تـــلقى معهـــد الـــلغة اإلنجـــليزيـــة يـــنبع االعـــتماد مـــن مـــؤســـسة CEA املـــرمـــوقـــة فـــي الـــواليـــات املتحـدة (هـيئة اعـتماد بـرامـج الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة) فـي عـام 2012 وحـصل عـــلى االعـــتماد الـــعلمي مـــن قـــبل مـــؤســـسة اإلعـــتماد الـــعلمي فـــي أوروبـــا

"EAQUALS" في صيف عام .2016

ويـعد هـذا اإلعـتماد األكـاديـمي عـلى جـميع الـبرامـج الـتي يـقدمـها املعهـد ابـتداًء مـن بـرنـامـج الـسنة الـتأسـيسية وبـرنـامـج الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة لـألغـراض الـخاصـة وبـرنـامـج الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة لـألغـراض األكـاديـمية ، هـو األول مـن

نوعه ألي مؤسسة تدرس اللغة اإلنجليزية في اململكة.

ماذا يوجد في معهد اللغة اإلنجليزية؟

يــقدم معهــد الــلغة اإلنجــليزيــة بــينبع بــرنــامــجاً تــأســيسياً مــكثفاً فــي الــلغة اإلنجـليزيـة لـلطالب مـن جـميع املـؤسـسات داخـل قـطاع الـكليات واملـعاهـد بـالـهيئة املـلكية بـينبع RCYCI، وذلـك بـغض الـنظرعـن مسـتوى مـهاراتـهم فـي الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة. وخـالل دراسـة الـطالب فـي معهـد الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة، فـــإنـــهم يحـــظون بـــتعليم عـــالـــي الـــجودة وإهـــتمام شـــخصي مـــن مـــدرســـني ذوي مـــهارات عـــالـــية مـــن مـــختلف أنـــحاء الـــعالـــم، وذلـــك مـــن خـــالل دورات

مكثفة في دراسة اللغة اإلنجليزية تشمل املهارات اللغوية األربعة.

وهــذا بــالــطبع يــشمل ســلسلة مــصممة بــعنايــة مــن الخــطوات الــتي تهــدف إلـــى تـــلبية احـــتياجـــات الـــلغة اإلنجـــليزيـــة أثـــناء فـــترة دراســـة الـــطالـــب فـــي

معهد اللغة اإلنجليزية بينبع وما بعدها.

أمـــا الـــطالب الـــذيـــن يـــدرســـون فـــي كـــلية يـــنبع الـــصناعـــية، فبمجـــرد إنـــتهاء الــــبرنــــامــــج الــــتأســــيسي، يــــكون هــــناك دورات لــــغة إنجــــليزيــــة مــــتاحــــة لــــهم ومـرتـكزة عـلى بـرامـج الـدبـلوم والـبكالـوريـوس ملـواصـلة صـقل كـفاءتـهم فـي

اللغة اإلنجليزية.

وفــي كــل خــطوة عــلى الــطريــق، فــإن لــجان شــؤون الــطلبة فــي معهــد الــلغة اإلنجــــليزيــــة بــــينبع ســــتكون مــــعكم لــــلمساعــــدة فــــي جــــعل حــــياتــــكم بمعهــــد الــــلغة اإلنجــــليزيــــة يــــنبع أمــــتع وأكــــثر ســــهولــــة. وســــنكون مــــعكم ولــــكم مــــن الــــلقاء الــــتعريــــفي األول ولــــغايــــة آخــــر يــــوم دراســــي لــــكم فــــي معهــــد الــــلغة

اإلنجليزية بينبع.

Placement What is so important about an English Placement Test? Well, let’s talk about what it’s NOT for.

It’s not for failing or passing you. It’s not for deciding who gets to stay and who doesn’t. You don’t have to get a good mark to stay at your college. But you do need to do as well as you can to let us know what the best English class for you will be. We don’t want you to be bored in a class that’s too easy, or frustrated in a class that’s too hard. So try your best and we’ll put you in the right class!

You will have to take the Aptis Test which is conducted by the British Council . The results will be used to place you on the right course. for you (see the table below)

REMEMBER - do your best to help us to offer you right course. REMEMBER - if you do well, you may be excepted from some courses. REMEMBER - it’s not a problem if you don’t do so well. It will place you at your level. REMEMBER - like every other test at the YELI, there is a time and place. Do not be late for it!

Don’t worry - If you think you’ve been placed in the wrong level, you can challenge your placement. We’ll give you another test to make sure you’re in the right place (see Student Complaints)


تحديد املستوىمـــا هـــي أهـــمية اخـــتبار تحـــديـــد مســـتوى الـــلغة اإلنجـــليزيـــة؟ حـــسنا،

دعونا نتحدث عن االشياء التي ليس من اجلها يعقد االختبار. انـه لـيس عـن نـجاحـك او رسـوبـك. انـه ال يحـدد مـن يـبقي و مـن يـغادر الــــكلية. انــــت لســــت بــــحاجــــة لــــلحصول عــــلي درجــــة جــــيدة لــــلبقاء فــــى الـكلية. ولـكن الهـدف مـن االخـتبار هـو اعـالمـنا مـا انـت بـحاجـة الـيه او قــادر لــفعله لــكى نــتمكن مــن وضــعك فــي املســتوى املــناســب. نــحن ال نـرغـب أن تـشعر بـاملـلل فـي قـاعـة دراسـية حـيث ان املـنهج سهـل جـداً، أو اإلحــــباط فــــي قــــاعــــة دراســــية حــــيث ان املــــنهج صــــعب جــــداً. لــــذلــــك حــــاول أن تظهــــر أفــــضل مــــا لــــديــــك لــــتعكس مــــا هــــو مســــتوى الــــكفاءة

لديك في اللغة اإلنجليزية!

ســـيكون عـــليك اجـــراء اخـــتبار تحـــديـــد مســـتوى الـــلغة اإلنجـــليزيـــة قـــبل بـدء الـدراسـة فـي معهـد الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة فـي يـنبع. سـيتم اسـتخدام اخــتبار (Aptis) والــذي يشــرف عــليه املجــلس الــثقافــي الــبريــطانــي وســــيتم اســــتخدام الــــنتيجة لــــوضــــعك عــــلى املــــسار الــــصحيح. ملــــعرفــــة

مستوى قدرتك (انظر الجدول أدناه)

تــذكــر - ابــذل قــصارى جهــدك ومــساعــدة نــفسك لــكى تــساعــدنــا فــي وضعك فى املستوى الصحيح.

تــــذكــــر – إذا حــــصلت عــــلى درجــــة مــــمتازة فــــى االخــــتبار قــــد ال تــــكون مــــــضطراً لــــــدراســــــة جــــــميع مــــــقررات الــــــلغةاإلنجــــــليزيــــــة فــــــي بــــــرنــــــامــــــج

السنةالتأسيسية. تــذكــر - انــها ليســت مــشكلة إذا لــم تــكن درجــتك جــيدة. فــانــها ســوف

تضعك في املستوى املناسب. تـذكـر - مـثل كـل االخـتبارات فـي معهـد الـلغة االنجـلزيـة بـينبع ، هـناك

وقت ومكان. ال تتأخر عن ذلك!

ال تـــــقلق! وســـــوف تـــــعرف مـــــاذا تـــــفعل وأيـــــن تـــــذهـــــب فـــــي أول يـــــوم مـــــن الفصل الدراسي. (انظر الجدول أدناه)

GRADES The minim passing grade for all YELI Courses is ‘D” (60 per cent).

A final score of less than 60 per cent shows the learning outcomes have not been achieved to a satisfactory level. As student who doesn't satisfactorily achieve the learning outcomes is required to repeat the course. A complete guide to the YELI Grade Structure is shown on the next page.

تعد الدرجة النهائية التي تقل عن %60 مؤشراً على عدم تحقيق أهداف املقرر. ويجب

على الطالب الذي ال يحقق األهداف إعادة دراسة املقرر. يوجد دليل كامل عن نظام الدرجات في املعهد في الصفحة التالية.

أتقن الطالب ما طلب منه في املقرر وتعداه ملا بعد أهداف املقرر. طالب

ممتاز ولديه معرفة عالية ولديه القدرة على تركيب وتطبيق املفاهيم

واملصطلحات.

Learner has shown mastery of the subject matter/course material and has met course expectations. Very good student, with depth of knowledge and analytical ability.

Very Good 85 – 89 B+ 85 – 89 ً جيد جدا

أتقن الطالب ما طلب منه في املقرر وحقق األهداف املرجوة من املقرر.

طالب جيد جداً لديه معلومات جيدة ومقدرة على التحليل.

Learner has shown mastery of the subject matter/course material and has met course expectations. Good student with high knowledge level and good application of information.

Good 80 – 84 B جيد 84 – 80

أتقن الطالب ما طلب منه في املقرر وحقق األهداف املرجوة من املقرر. طالب جيد لديه مستوى عالي من

املعرفة ومقدرة على تطبيقها.

Learner has shown relative mastery of the subject matter/course material and has adequately met course expectations. Satisfactory knowledge, with limited application and demonstration of understanding.

أتقن الطالب ما طلب منه في املقرر وحقق األهداف املرجوة من املقرر

Foundation Program As you know, all courses in all Royal Commission Colleges and Institutes are taught in English. What you may not know yet is that speaking and communicating in English is something that will come naturally to you. It is our job to make this happen and your job to use your time here to get the most out of the courses. Side by side, we can move on through your program, gradually getting better and better.

Our Main Goal To give you the skills you need to succeed in

communicating in English. If you are new to your College then you’ll be in a Foundation E n g l i s h program. When you finish these

basic courses (ENG 001, and/or ENG 002) then you will be taking more advanced courses at your College in your field of

specialization and which will prepare you for your career in English-speaking environments.

Exit Test Exit from the Foundation Program is

dependent on getting the required score on the Aptis test, which is administered by the British Council.

Exemption If you have passed the the IELTS (4.5+), TOEFL iBT (46+), or STEP(80+) you may be exempted

from the Foundation Program through the Student Affairs Registrar.

Foundation courses

ENG 001 ENG 001 - English I is a first-semester general

English course (CEFR Level A1-A2) designed for high school graduates seeking to pursue

their undergraduate studies in the Colleges or Institutes of the Royal Commission at Yanbu, where the medium of instruction is English.

This course is part of the Foundation Year English Program and follows an integrated approach in teaching the four basic skills of

Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, with a focus on fluency and accuracy. In addition, this course will make extensive use of audio-visual aids so as to give students

more opportunities to interact with the language in a more relaxed environment.

ENG 002 ENG 002 English II is an English course (CEFR Level A2-B1) designed for students preparing for specialized undergraduate studies within

the Royal Commission for Yanbu’s Colleges and Institutes, where the medium of instruction is English. The course is part of the

RCYCI’s Foundation Program and is offered to second-semester students. It follows an integrated approach in teaching the four

basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, and focuses on fluency and accuracy. This course makes extensive use of audio-visual aids and other interactive

content so as to provide students with opportunities to interact with the language in an environment conducive to independent

learning.

POST-Foundation If you’re a student at YIC, once you complete the Foundation Program you’ll go into the Associate Degree and maybe the Bachelor’s Degree after that. YELI offers courses at these levels to help you learn the specific ski l ls you need to succeed in your specialization.

Associate Degree

ENG 101 ENG 101 – Communication I is a first-semester ESP course des igned for s tudents who have successfully completed the Foundation Program and are now enrolled in the Associate Degree programs in the Royal Commission at Yanbu’s colleges and institutes division. The course solely focuses on communication for the workplace. Students are exposed to the elements of business letters and to the basics of oral communication in professional settings. Students will write inquiry, order, claim, and adjustment letters, and actively take part in group discussions, debates, and deliver effective oral presentations.

ENG 102 ENG 102 – Communication II is a second-semester ESP course designed for students who have successfully completed ENG 101 – Communication I. The course exposes students to the fundamentals of technical writing. Students will produce graphs and charts, write appropriate comments on the graphics they produce to illustrate information, actively take part in group work, and deliver effective oral presentations

Training program YELI offers a range of courses for industrial trainees. The courses are designed to provide students with the grounding in general English they need to survive in the workplace.

BSEN 1101 BSEN 1101– Foundation English is a one-semester, non-credit, bridge-course (CEFR Level A1) designed for high school graduates whose proficiency level in English is below the Colleges and Institutes language requirements. It aims at bringing these students on-level for them to pursue their undergraduate studies in the Colleges or Institutes of the Royal Commission at Yanbu, where the medium of instruction is English. The course follows an integrated approach in teaching the four basic skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, with a focus on fluency and accuracy. Students are placed in this course after

they sit the Aptis Test (British Council).

Attendance We all know we can have a few days when we may be absent from class. But the schedule does NOT know that, the books do NOT know that and the teacher does NOT stop ...for you.

The level of unexcused absence is 15 per cent; the level for excused absence is 25 per cent. Excused absence is only allowed in the most serious situations.

If you exceed these limits, you’ll be removed from the course. All excused absence should be registered with the Student Affairs Department of your institution. Your teacher cannot change your attendance.

Complaints If you’re unhappy with anything about an YELI course or program, you can register a complaint with one of two people.

Your Teacher Your teachers should be the first person you speak to to register a complaint. If you don’t want to speak to them during class time, you

can make an appointment to meet with them during their office hour.

The Student Affairs Committee

The Student Affairs Committee will do their best to handle your complaint or concern. If you’re still not happy, the matter can be

referred the YELI upper management.

Your Head of Unit If your teacher can’t help you, they will send you to the YELI Head of Unit (HoU) who might ask you to fill out a Student Complaint Form first, which is available at the YELI reception as well as with the Student Affairs Committee. The HoU will take your complaint

and seriously and arrange a solution to your problem..

What Can I Complain About? Scheduling conflicts, test results, anything

academic, In fact, you can also talk to the Student Affairs Committee about just about any other issue related to college life.


الشكوىإذا كنت غير راٍض عن أي من المقررات أو البرامج الدراسية التي يقدمها

معهد اللغة اإلنجليزية بينبع، فيمكنك التقدم بشكوى لدى أحد التالية أسماؤهم:

مدرس المادةمدرس المادة هو أول شخص ينبغي عليك التوجه إليه لتسجيل

شكواك، وفي حال أنك ال ترغب التحدث إلى مدرس المادة في وقت المحاضرة، فإنه يمكنك أخذ موعد من المدرس لمقابلته والتحدث إليه

بشأن الشكوى أثناء الساعات المكتبية .

لجنة شؤون الطالب بمعهد اللغة اإلنجليزيةستبذل لجنة شؤون الطالب بالمعهد قصارى جهدها للنظر في

الشكوى والتعامل معها، وفي حال عدم رضاك عن الحلول المقترحة من قبل اللجنة، فسيتم إحالة الشكوى لإلدارة العليا بالمعهد.

رئيس وحدة اللغة اإلنجليزية بالمعهدفي حال تعذر على مدرس المادة مساعدتك، فإنه سيقوم بإحالتك إلى

رئيس وحدة اللغة اإلنجليزية بالمعهد والذي بدوره قد يطلب منك أوالً القيام بتعبئة (استمارة شكوى للطالب) التي يمكنك الحصول عليها في الطابق العلوي من المبنى األكاديمي كما أنها متوفرة لدى لجنة شؤون الطالب بالمعهد. بعد ذلك سيقوم رئيس وحدة اللغة اإلنجليزية بالمعهد باستالم شكواك والتعامل معها باهتمام بالغ من أجل إيجاد

الحل المناسب.

بم تتعلق الشكاوى؟يمكنك التقدم بشكوى في الحاالت التالية:

تعارض أوقات المحاضرات (في الجدول الدراسي)، نتائج االختبارات، والشؤون األكاديمية بشكل عام. بل إنه يمكنك التحدث

مباشرة إلى لجنة شؤون الطالب بالمعهد بشأن أي من األمور المتعلقة بالحياة الجامعية.

Student Representative Council The Student Representat ive Council (SRC) is a representative body for the YELI students to raise issues of educational, recreational and social interests of the students across all YELI units - YIC, YTI and YUCW . Every section of all courses and programs has representation on the council and students elect their own representative to make their voice heard. This aim of the council is to honor students’ views and to provide them a platform to express their opinion about the common ser v ices , academic environment, social l i fe , and recreational facilities at the YELI and suggest ways to make things better.

Support Programs Student Learning Support Program

Student Learning Support Program is for

those students who are finding it hard to keep up with the course and need one-on-one help with their studies. Students can be

referred to the support program by their section teacher or may directly contact the Student Affairs Committee of they think they

need help. The program starts in Week 3 of the semester and lasts until the end of the semester. Students wishing to register in the program can contact their course teacher or

email the coordinator of the program at YELI_students.rcyci.edu.sa.

Remedial Programs

The Remedial Program is designed to help the students who face problems in certain

areas of their studies to prepare for the final exam. The program runs for the last two weeks before the final exam/ registration starts in Week 11. Contact the Remedial

إن بــرنــامــج دعــم تــعلم الــطالب مــعد ألولــئك الــطالب الــذيــن يجــدون صـــــعوبـــــة فـــــي مـــــواكـــــبة مـــــتطلبات املـــــواد والـــــذيـــــن يـــــحتاجـــــون إلـــــى

مساعدة واحد– إلى –واحد بدراستهم .

يـمكن لـلطالب أن يـحولـوا إلـى بـرنـامـج الـدعـم مـن قـبل مـدرس املـادة , و يـــمكن أن يـــتصل الـــطالب الـــذيـــن يـــعتقدون أنـــهم بـــحاجـــة إلـــى

English Language Club The English Language Club is an initiative taken by YELI to serve the students of the

RCYCI throughout the studies. The club was originally established in 2011 to serve the students of Yanbu Industrial College. Since

then, the club has expanded to have branches at both the YTI and YUC Women’s’ campuses.

The club was inspired by students' need to practice using English outside the classroom as a means of improving and developing their

proficiency. The club tries to compensate for the lack of exposure opportunities to English for students living in a non-English speaking

environment.

The aim of the English Language Club is to

build a generation of students confident in expressing themselves in English. To this end, the club organizes spelling, speaking and debate contests as well as making use of

Scrabble board games to create a fun learning atmosphere.

Activities

The English Language Club offers the students opportunities to practice their

language through a variety of social and recreational activities. These include:

• Speaking and Debate Competitions

• Spelling Bees

• Scrabble Tournaments

• Community Service and Volunteer Work


نادي اللغةاإلنجلیزیة

تــــم انــــشاء نــــادي الــــلغة اإلنجــــليزيــــة بــــمبادرة مــــن معهــــد الــــــلغة اإلنجــــــليزيــــــة بــــــينبع لخــــــدمــــــة طــــــالب قــــــطاع كــــــليات ومـــعاهـــد الـــهيئة املـــلكية بـــينبع بـــعد دراســـات مســـتفيضة. تــــأســــيس الــــنادي عــــام 2011 لخــــدمــــة طــــالب كــــلية يــــنبع الــصناعــية. وبــعد ذلــك، تــوســع الــنادي بــافــتتاح فــروع لــه فــــي كــــل مــــن معهــــد يــــنبع الــــتقني وكــــلية يــــنبع الــــجامــــعية

للبنات.

اسـتلهم الـنادي حـاجـة الـطالب ملـمارسـة اسـتخدام الـلغة اإلنجــليزيــة خــارج الــفصول الــدراســية كــوســيلة لتحســني وتـطويـر كـفاءتـهم. يـعمل الـنادي عـلى تـوفـير فـرص لـلطلبة للتحـدث بـالـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة حـيث أنـهم يـعيشون فـي بـيئة

غير ناطقة باللغة اإلنجليزية.

الهــــدف مــــن نــــادي الــــلغة اإلنجــــليزيــــة هــــو بــــناء جــــيل مــــن الــــــطلبة الــــــقادريــــــن عــــــلى الــــــتعبير عــــــن أنــــــفسهم بــــــالــــــلغة اإلنجـــــــــليزيـــــــــة. ولـــــــــتحقيق هـــــــــذه الـــــــــغايـــــــــة، يـــــــــنظم الـــــــــنادي مـسابـقات الـتهجئة والتحـدث و الـنقاش كـما ويـعمل عـلى االسـتفادة مـن ألـعاب الـطاولـة املـبعثرة لخـلق جـو تـعلمي

ممتع.

Writing Center Like other Writing Centers around the world, the Writing Center at the YELI aims at raising

the literacy level of its host community, re-establishing, and nurturing the culture of reading and writing across the curriculum throughout the RCYCI. It therefore has the

mission of helping students, faculty, and the community improve their writing abilities in different disciplines, and to enable them to

write for different purposes, audiences and contexts with ease and confidence.

The center operates at three different campuses - Yanbu Industrial College, Yanbu University College Women’s Campus and Yanbu Technical Institute - and is overseen by

a team of enthusiastic tutors.

FAQs Will I have a chance to meet some foreign nationals? A very limited number of foreign nationals are also studying here.You will have more

chances to meet them if you attend various students’ clubs.

Can I change an YELI course teacher? Generally, no. You can only change your

teacher under exceptional circumstances on the approval and discretion of the YELI management.

What if I feel I’m in the wrong YELI course level?

The English Placement Test will determine your level. If you do the best you can, you can be sure that you have been placed in the

right course but, if you still think you are in the wrong level, you can challenge your placement by submitting a written request to the Head of Unit to take to take a ‘Quick Test’

for the level you think you should be in. Depending on the score, you may be reassigned to another course/level.

Can I get extra help if I need it? Why not? You can always get extra help. See your teacher first, and he will help you get the

kind of assistance you need. The SLSP and Remedial Program offered by the Student Affairs Committee are for you .Writing Center is there to help you in writing and English

Club is to help you improve your speaking and leadership abilities.

إن عـــــــدداً محـــــــدوداً جـــــــداً مـــــــن أصـــــــحاب الـــــــجنسيات األجـــــــنبية أيـــــــضاً

يـدرسـون هـنا. سـيكون لـديـك الـفرصـة لـلقائـهم فـى حـالـة انـضمامـك إلـى

نوادى الطلبة املختلفة.

هل سأكون قادراً على اإلنضمام إلى أي من هذه النوادى؟

بــــالــــطبع نــــعم. هــــنالــــك عــــدداً مــــن الــــنوادى الــــتي يــــمكنك أن تــــختار مــــن

بــينها مــثل نــادى الــلغة االنجــليزيــة ، نــادى الــتوســت مــاســتر (الخــطابــة)

واألنـديـة الـريـاضـية وهـناك أيـضاً بـرنـامـجاً ريـاضـياً يجـمع بـني مـختلف

األلعاب الرياضية واملسابقات املمتعة في الحرم الجامعي وخارجه.

يـــــعمل اخـــــتبار تحـــــديـــــد املســـــتوى فـــــي الـــــلغة االنجـــــليزيـــــة عـــــلى تحـــــديـــــد مســتواك الــلغوي . فــإذا كــنت قــد فــعلت كــل مــا فــي وســعك للخــروج مــن االخــــتبار بــــنتيجة جــــيدة ، فــــكن عــــلى يــــقني بــــأنــــه قــــد تــــم إســــناد املــــقرر الــــدراســــي الــــذي يــــتناســــب ومســــتواك الــــلغوي، ولــــكن إذا كــــنت ال تــــزال تـــــعتقد بـــــأنـــــه قـــــد تـــــم وضـــــعك ضـــــمن مســـــتوى ال يـــــتناســـــب مـــــع قـــــدراتـــــك الــلغويــة، فــإنــه يــمكنك الــتقدم بــطلب خــطي إلــى رئــيس الــوحــدة بــاملعهــد لـتأديـة (اخـتبار سـريـع) للمسـتوى الـذي تـعتقد أنـك يـجب أن تـكون فـيه. ووفــــــقاً لــــــنتيجة االخــــــتبار ، ســــــيتم إســــــناد مــــــقرر دراســــــي آخــــــر لــــــك أو

How do I find my teacher if I need to? All YELI teachers have offices and keep

regular office hours. You can email your teacher on official email for the best time and place to meet. Every teacher’s schedule for

classes and office hours is displayed on his/her office desk.

Do I need to make an appointment to see a teacher or YELI management?

You can meet your teacher during his regular office hours; the YELI management has an open door policy, and if they are not busy will try to help you when you see them.

Do all YELI teachers speak Arabic? YELI is an English language medium institution, so not all teachers in the center

speak Arabic. but you can contact the YELI Student Affairs Committee if you need to discuss something personal in Arabic.

Can I make up missed classes at the YELI? No you can’t. You should ask your teacher of class mates about. In case of academic help you are welcome in teachers’ office hours

and/or SLSP.

Can I choose a teacher for a particular course? You cannot choose a particular teacher for a

course. All students are assigned to a course section, and each course section has a teacher assigned to it.


كيف أستطيع أن أجد مدرسى إذا احتجت لذلك؟

جــــميع مــــدرســــى معهــــد الــــلغة االنجــــليزيــــة لــــهم مــــكاتــــبهم ولــــهم ســــاعــــات مــــكتبية مــــنتظمة. يــــمكنك مــــراســــلة مــــدرســــك لتحــــديــــد الــزمــان واملــكان املــناســبني مــن أجــل الــلقاء. إن جــدول املــدرس

الدراسى معلق على جدار املكتب.

هــل أحــتاج إلــى تــرتــيب مــوعــد ملــقابــلة املــدرس أو أي أحد من اإلدارة فى معهد اللغة اإلنجليزية بينبع ؟

تسـتطيع أن تـقابـل مـدرسـك خـالل سـاعـاتـه املـكتبية أمـا إدارة املعهــد فــلديــها ســياســة الــباب املــفتوح تســتطيع أن تــقابــل أى

منهم ملساعدتك في حال عدم انشغال الشخص املعني.

هل يتحدث جميع مدرسو املعهد اللغة العربية؟

تــذكــر أن معهــد الــلغة اإلنجــليزيــة بــينبع وســيلة لــتدريــس الــلغة لـــــذا لـــــيس مـــــن الـــــضروري أن يتحـــــدث جـــــميع املـــــدرســـــني فـــــي املعهـــــد الـــــعربـــــية . يـــــمكنك الـــــتواصـــــل مـــــع أحـــــد أعـــــضاء لـــــجنة شـؤون الـطالب فـى معهـد الـلغة اإلنجـليزيـة ملـناقـشة أي قـضية

شخصية باللغة العربية.

لـــألســـف ال تســـتطيع ذلـــك . يـــمكنك اإلســـتعانـــة بـــأحـــد زمـــالئـــك لــسؤالــه عــما فــاتــك مــن املــحاضــرات. كــذلــك يــمكنك االســتعانــة بــــــمدرســــــك خــــــالل ســــــاعــــــاتــــــه املــــــكتبية أو بــــــأحــــــد األشــــــخاص

العاملني ببرامج التقوية لتقديم أي مساعدة مطلوبة.
