You, Me, The World & Finchley

The Artsdepot have teamed up with community storytelling company Take Stock

Exchange (TSX) to deliver an exciting community wide project in Finchley from January

2021.

They run online sessions to empower people to share stories about their experiences

living and working in the local area. They then share those stories with the other

people and groups they’re working with, a bit like a story exchange. The project gives

people a chance to be creative and express themselves, but also to hear from other people,

understand their experiences a little better, and have reason to feel a greater sense of

belonging to the place they live or work. At the project's culmination, everyone involved

and members of the public will be invited to come together to eat a meal and listen to a

retelling of a collection of stories at Artsdepot.

Want to be involved? Contact [email protected].

You can find out more about TSX’s work on their website.

Polarized Eyes

Check out this up and coming band Polarized Eyes, featuring two

Woodhouse Music students, Noah Lonergan (songwriter, lead vocal,

guitar) and Harry Heard (drums). Their single Blackout has been

featured on Radio X on their new artist program.

Following a prolific bout of writing while the schools were shut and they dodged their

GCSEs, Polarized Eyes are releasing Blackout on 19 December 2020. A call to action against

racism and corruption, the track was written on Blackout Tuesday following the murder of

George Floyd. Blackout is the first of four new tracks written and recorded over lockdown.

Stay tuned for more bangers in the new year.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

January 27 - Holocaust Memorial Day

A day for everyone to remember the millions of people who

were killed, or whose lives have been changed, by an event in

history called the Holocaust. It refers to when the German

Nazi party - led by Adolf Hitler - murdered six million Jewish

people from countries across Europe in an attempt to wipe

out the Jewish population. They were targeted simply

because they were Jewish. The Nazis also killed millions of other people just because of

who they were. For example, Roma gypsies, disabled people and gay people were also

targeted. Click here for more information.

Please look out for an email containing lots of excellent attachments and useful links that

will be sent out on that day.

The Holocaust threatened the fabric of civilisation, and genocide must still be resisted every

day. Our world often feels fragile and vulnerable and we cannot be complacent. Even in the

UK, prejudice and the language of hatred must be challenged by us all.

Nina Sosanya reads the poem Colours - A thought to all the survivors of the 1994 genocide

by Michaella Rugwizangoga, an award-winning Rwandan poet. The poem is dedicated to the

survivors of the Genocide in Rwanda as a message of hope and solidarity.

Colours

Red, Blue, Yellow

Green, White, Purple

Jasmine, Orange, Azure

Old pallor's,

Make way for new homes

A future spread with colours

A horizon without sorrow

Here ends our pain.

Here begins life

January 29 - Vasant Panchami (Hindu)

A famous festival that marks the end of the winter season

and ushers in the springtime. Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess

of the Vasant Panchami festival.

Young girls wear bright yellow dresses and participate in the

festivities. The colour yellow holds a special meaning for this

celebration as it signifies the brilliance of nature and the

vibrancy of life. Click here for more.
