ACADEMY OVERVIEW

The Mount Boucherie Secondary School is an (*ITA Youth Train in Trades ) Hairdressing Academy designed for grade(s) 11 and 12 students who have chosen Hairdressing as their primary career choice. Our program is composed of three grade 11 and four grade 12 Hairdressing courses, along with Work Experience 12A and 12B, giving our students 40 high school course credits and 990 Industry Training Hairdressing hours. This is a Red Seal Industry Standards Hairdressing Program, and therefore, students must achieve a minimum of 70% in all course work including all theory and practical/lab assignments and Work Experience placements.

PROGRAM OUTCOME Students who successfully complete our Hairdressing program will: Earn 36 high school course credits. Earn 990 Hairdressing *ITA Youth Train. Write the Industry Training Certificate of Qualifications theory exam in June, if they have an

overall mark of 70% or better. This exam is issued by the Industry Training Authority. Receive assistance with securing a Hairdressing apprenticeship position in a local salon.

Students may continue to log hours in the future towards the 3600 hours needed beforecompletion of their apprenticeship.

Qualify to apply for a $1000 District Scholarship in their graduating year.

ENROLLMENT REQUIRMENTS The Mount Boucherie Hairdressing Program enrolls 18 grade 11 and/or 12 students each September. Applicants must have completed all grade 10 course requirements. Student applications are due on/or before April 1st of the previous school year. Enrollment preference will be given to those students who: have a serious interest in Hairdressing as their primary career choice possess an excellent attendance record portray professionalism and respectful conduct are self-motivated.

PROGRAM COST There will be a student equipment fee of $850 to cover ALL of the following. A very extensive Professional Hairdressing Kit ($1,200 retail value) 4 mannequins One Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology and one accompanying Study Guide ($95 value) One Hair Structure Simplified textbook Study Guide On-going Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Wella, and numerous other Professional Workshops One Student ticket to a local Hair Show ($40 value) The use of professional hair products (colors, permanent waves, styling aids) and equipment

(hydraulic chairs, shampoo bowls, dryers, styling implements) during practical lessons A Cosmetology Industry Association of BC student membership ($25 value) *ITA "Youth Train" apprenticeship registration and placement coordination

NOTE: $250 deposit and post-dated cheques for the remaining $650 program fees required upon acceptance into the program. All fees must be paid in total by January 1st.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS 1. Professional Conduct

It is expected that all MBSS Hairdressing students will model professional conduct at all times (both at school and at the work experience sites). The expectation is that the student will arrive on time with necessary equipment and books, be dressed appropriately and be prepared to learn. A pattern of lateness, absenteeism, and/or professional misconduct may result in dismissal from the MBSS Hairdressing Program.

2. Practical Lab Work/Work ExperienceHairdressing students are expected to take clients first. They will be attentive with clients and will not socialize/gossip in their presence. Hairdressing students must never argue in front of a client, regardless of the reason. If a student is uncertain of the correct procedure while performing a hairdressing task (on a client, fellow student, or mannequin) it is expected that the student will refer to their textbook and/or seek immediate assistance from the Teacher. Note: Only those students who miss class due to serious illness and/or special family circumstances may be allowed to make up missed time, within reason. All students are responsible for the care and safety of their own equipment. Missing equipment and supplies are students' responsibility. Lost items can be replaced for an additional fee.
