Our present life is given only to gain the eternal one and if we don’t think about it, we build our affections on what belongs to this world, where our life is transitory. When we have to leave it we are afraid and become agitated. Believe me, to live happily in this pilgrimage, we have to aim at the hope of arriving at our Homeland, where we will stay eternally. Meanwhile we have to believe firmly that God calls us to Himself and follows us along the path towards Him. He will never permit anything to happen to us that is not for our greater good. He knows who we are and He will hold out His paternal hand to us during difficulties, so that nothing prevents us from running to Him swiftly. But to enjoy this grace we must have complete trust in Him.

—St Padre Pio

Suggested items include: diapers, wipes, bibs, burp cloths, pacifiers, socks, baby spoons, onesies, and sleepers, sizes newborn to 6 months. These items may be placed in the babies donation box which is under the card table in the entrance to the church. Any items that you could contribute will be greatly appreciated by the society and the family. Thank you for your generosity to our collection of gifts. —Nancy Goble, President

Cursillistas of any of the three-day Christian spiritual renewal programs are invited to attend and anyone wanting to learn more about Cursillo are welcome. More information needed: Call Lay Director, Michael Vaessen at (815) 994-7543 or Publicity Chair, Loretta Volker at (815) 875-1330.

My only regret is that I have no adequate means with which to thank the Blessed Virgin Mary, through whose intercession I have undoubtedly received so much strength from the Lord, to bear with sincere resignation the many humiliations to which I am subjected day after day. . . And I do not believe this strength comes to me from the world. —St Padre Pio

“Embracing a Life of Meaning"

Weekly Lenten services will again be sponsored by the Mendota Church Women, an ecumenical group representing a number of local churches. What are your plans for this very holy season? Our five Wednesday morning sessions are a great way to spend time with God and deepen your faith.

You are invited to join us at 9:30AM, beginning February 21st, at First Presbyterian Church (which is on the corner of 5th Street and 10th Avenue, and is handicapped accessible from the parking lot). This year's program is based upon the study "Embracing a Life of Meaning," by Kathleen Norris with Tim Scorer. Each session will include worship, a video presentation, and a brief discussion in small groups. A free-will offering will be taken for donations to organizations serving our community. Refreshments and fellowship will follow, and we estimate the event will last one hour.

Each week, one of the member churches will lead the service and provide the refreshments. Holy Cross will serve the event on March 14th.HWe will need to provide 5-6 large coffee cakes or other breakfast pastries. We also need several volunteers to: hand out programs, take up the collection, read a short scripture, serve refreshments, and clean up. Please let Rose Lewis know how you are able to help. Please join us, and bring a friend or neighbor!
