David’s Desk June 25, 2017– The 12th Sunday in the Season of Ordinary Time Sts. Francis, Mary & Thomas Parishes “To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.” ~Bl. John Henry Cardinal Newman Well, the day has come. It’s time to say good- bye. And with my goodbye, I also want to say five other things. Thank you While I’ve said this a few other times, there’s always a reason to be grateful. All of you opened the doors to your hearts for me, and for that I’m grateful. Some even opened the doors to your homes and fridges for me, and for that I’m also grateful. Thank you, as well, for all the kind words, gifts, and cards I’ve already been receiving. Sorry St. John Vianney said “we will either accuse ourselves or excuse ourselves.” Well, I do not want to do the latter. As I wrote on my first bulletin letter, this was my first assignment as parochial administrator. As such, I’m sure I made some mistakes, and I want to apologize for them. Sorry if there were times that I was unavailable, sorry if I did not fulfill some ex- pectations, sorry for any other shortcoming. Just, sorry. Stay Strong Shortly after I arrived in Calhoun County, I noticed how united our communities were. The next few weeks will be difficult for some; St. Mary is going to oratory, the number of Sun- day Masses will be reduced, some things will be different. I’d hate to see the sense of com- munity be harmed because of this. I’d venture to say that this is a great opportunity to come together and come out stronger. Remember the famous line from The Three Musketeers, “all for one and one for all, united we stand divid- ed we fall.” Stay strong, stay united, stay root- ed in Christ. Pray for me I’m truly excited for the opportunity of going back to finish my studies, but I’m sure there will be some difficult moments. I love being in a parish and having contact with families, which I won’t be able to do while in school. I’ll also have to spend hours reading and writ- ing a dissertation, so I’ll need your prayers. Please, continue to pray for me, and know of my prayers for you. Stay in touch During the last couple weeks we have printed my contact information on the bulletin. Feel free to contact me through any of those means anytime. I will not get to Rome till the end of August, after I spend some time visiting my family and doing a spiritual retreat. So don’t feel like I’m ignoring you if you don’t hear back from me right away. I truly look forward to hearing from all of you. “The Grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2Cor 13:14), Father David Our Lady of Fatima Anniversary Conference Sat., August 5, Registration 8 am Conference begins at 9 am, Sioux City Convention Center, Sioux City Registration: $25/person in advance, $30 day of con- ference. Special Collection July 1/2 Peter’s Pence June 29 is the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the patrons of the Church of Rome, and so also of the whole Roman Catholic Church throughout the world. These two saints, who were such powerful evangelists in the ear-liest decades of the Church, continue to inspire and encourage our own efforts here and now for the salva-tion of souls. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, as suc-cessor of St. Peter, continues to lead the Church in the mission of our Savior, offering His grace where it is most needed in this life. We are taking up the Peter’s Pence collection to be part of the Church’s effort to promote a culture of encounter and justice. Your sup-port makes it possible for the Holy Father to carry out his charitable works around the world, to help victims of war, natural disasters, and other difficult situations. By supporting this collection with your prayers and your gift, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world.

For generations, science has ignored the concept

of creation because doing otherwise would beg the question ... of a Creator.

Today, however, we have compelling evidence–

from science itself–for a beginning and fine-tuning of the universe. The insights are complementary, and that very fact provides evidence of a

transcendent, intelligent Creator.
