From the Principal On Tuesday we had a fantastic start to our day with
the annual Book Week Dress Up Parade. The theme
for this year is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ and our
Year 7 students, along with Mrs Sharon Bell, kicked off
our parade with a curious and wild creep around the
undercover area in tune with the Pink Panther theme song. We then all
enjoyed a student and staff parade in which I was very impressed with the
level of participation by all and the creative book characters on show.
Every year our Book Week Parade is a highlight on the calendar and I
congratulate and thank Mrs Sharon Bell for all the effort and passion she
puts in to coordinating this event!
School chaplains make a valuable contribution to the
social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of our school
communities. This might include support and guidance
about ethics, values, relationships and other issues, and
helping students engage with the broader community.
They are part of the school’s pastoral care team. We are
fortunate to have Mrs Sharon Johnstone as our school
chaplain. Mrs Johnston has been who was identified by
an organisation called Youthcare, which is funded by the
state and federal governments. Through additional
funding we have been able to increase Mrs Johnstone’s time at our
school. Mrs Johnstone works at our school all day Monday, Tuesday and
Friday. This year Mrs Johnstone has been
Co-ordinating the breakfast club, emergency lunches and student
borrowing of uniform items.
Conducting home visits and supporting children in one-on-one
sessions at request of parents
Supporting parents and community members through trauma and
supporting staff and students when needs arise in classrooms and
break times.
Co-ordinating a school volunteer and mentor program which enables
community members to play an important role in supporting and
assisting student with their learning.
Working with all year 6 girls on the ‘In Real Life Program’ which
covers topics such as: making friends, dealing with gossip, conflict
resolution, managing emotions and safe use of social media.

Next term we will once again begin preparing for the
End of Year Awards Concert with all students
participating in a dance program that culminates in
class performances at the concert. In planning for this
event I would like to seek feedback from parents
about a preferred time to hold the concert. As a
school we would like to hold an event that can be
attended by as many parents as possible, and as
such, staff would be willing to have this event outside
of their work hours, if it means more students could
have their family present. Below is the link to a one
question survey which we would like all families to
answer this term, so that we can make an informed
decision. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RX72Z7X
Once we have received this feedback we will make a
decision about the concert time at the beginning of
next term.
Our next whole school assembly is tomorrow on
Thursday 27 August commencing at 2.20pm in the
undercover area. The assembly will be hosted by the
Year 2 students in Mr Harrison and Miss Lee’s class.
We are looking to
create an area in
our school that
commemorates the
100 Year
anniversary of the
school. The pavers
will be laid in the
school quadrangle and provide a permanent record of
those who have been connected with the school over
the last 100 years. This area will be able to be
enjoyed by past, present and future students and
families for years to come. Order forms for the
commemorative paving project are available from the
school or the Boddington Post Office.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be holding our
faction athletics events. All parents and family
members are invited to attend these events and
detailed information about each event will be sent
home prior to the day.

It is only three weeks until we hold our Open Day, on
Thursday 17 September, to celebrate the 100th
birthday of the school. In this newsletter there is an
order of events for the day and we encourage all
parents, carers and families to come along to all or
part of this day to help us celebrate. The school
Open Day will include the provision of Morning Tea
and Lunch for visitors, parents and guests. In order to
help with catering, if you are planning to attend the
Open Day and would like morning tea and lunch, we
would appreciate if you could let the school know.
You can do this by phoning the school on 9884 2900
or emailing [email protected].
As part of the Humanities and Social Sciences
Curriculum the Year 6 students are learning about
Australia’s democratic system of government,
including state and federal parliaments, and the roles
within them. On Tuesday 25 August the Year 6
students were privileged to receive a visit from the
Hon Mia Davies MLA who was interviewed by the
class about her job. Mia, who grew up and attended
school in Wyalkatchem, was able to share her
journey from country kid to politician. Next week, to
further their learning, the Year 6 students will be
participating in a tour of the Boddington Shire Council
and speaking with employees of the Boddington
Shire.
