Stretching and ShrinkingUnit Project
DUE: FRIDAY DECEMBER 1, 2006
Part One: Your drawing
Choose a picture or a cartoon to enlarge or shrink. Draw or trace your picture onto a coordinate grid. Create a list of coordinate points for your drawing Using a rule of at least (2x,2y) or at least (.5x, .5y) change the
coordinate point list, just like we did for the WUMPS Then, draw the new enlarged or shrunk figure on a coordinate
grid. Color both drawings.
Part Two: Your poster Carefully mount your two drawings on a poster board. Carefully mount your two coordinate point lists (the original and
the one you applied a rule to) on a poster board. Identify the scale factor and explain how the scale factor is
shown in your drawings and in your coordinate point lists. Explain how side lengths, perimeter and angle measures
changed from the original drawing to the enlarged/shrunk drawing. Identify specific side lengths, perimeter portions and angles in your drawings to illustrate this explanation.
Explain how area changed from the original drawing to the enlarged/shrunk drawing. Identify a specific portion of the drawings to illustrate this explanation.
Part Three: Your reportWrite a brief report about your project. Include answers to the following questions:
Why did you select this image to work with? How did you enlarge or shrink your drawing? What did you explain or learn about scale factor? What did you explain or learn about how side lengths, angle
measures, perimeter and area change when a figure is enlarged or shrunk?
