LCFF & LCAP
A few years ago, the state changed the
way it funds schools. Strathmore
receives additional funds to support
students based on the state formula.
As part of the requirements for this
funding, we develop a Local Control
Accountability Plan (LCAP) which
identifies how we will support and
enrich our student learning and expe-
riences. We have used these funds to
provide training to our teachers, in-
crease instructional time in the class
rooms, add instructional aides and
custodians, provide translators for
parent events, purchase more library
books, add computers (Chromebooks)
for every student in grades 2-8 in their
class, provide academic enrichment
activities and after school activities
(with busing), as well as other things.
We are now moving into our third year
of this plan. One of the key compo-
nents of this plan is having parents,
along with other stakeholders, be
involved throughout the process. As
we review what we have done and
plan for the future, we want to encour-
age you to be involved and provide
input on what we can do to continue to
improve your child’s education. You
can do this by attending parent meet-
ings (ELAC/DELAC, School Site
Council, GATE/DAC, PTO) and other
school events. Be sure to fill out the
survey that will be coming
home soon since we look at
every response to help guide
us in what we need to do. You
can find more information on
LCFF and LCAP at our school
website (www.suesd.k12.ca.us)
as well as on the California State
Board of Education’s Local Control
Funding Formula resource site (http://

A SPECIAL VISIT
On December 16, 2015 Strathmore
Elementary had a special visitor –
Santa! Each class had an opportunity
to visit Santa and take a picture with
him. Each student also received a
wrapped book courtesy of the man in
the red suit. It was a fun surprise for
our students and a great way to kick
off the holiday season. Special thanks
go to the SES PTO and everyone else
who helped make this
surprise visit a success.

NEW IMMUNIZATION
LAW 2016 Under a new law known as SB 277,
beginning January 1, 2016 exemp-
tions based on personal beliefs,
including religious beliefs, will no
longer be an option for the vaccines
that are currently required for
entry into entry into child care or
school in California. Most families
will not be affected by the new law
because their children have re-
ceived all required vaccinations.
Personal beliefs exemptions on file
for a child already attending child
care or school will remain valid until
the child reaches the next immun-
ization checkpoint at kindergarten
(including transitional kindergar-
ten) or 7th grade. For more infor-
mation about SB 277, please see the

TWO FAMILY NIGHTS
COMING SOON
As we deal with the cold of winter, it
is nice to look forward to the warmer
temperatures of spring. Along with
warmer temperatures, spring will
bring two Family Night events to
Strathmore Elementary.
The first event will be a Family
Literature Night which is schedule
for Thursday, March 17th from 5:00-
7:30 p.m. This family night will
provide a fun evening while remind-
ing everyone of the joys of reading.
The second event is our Family Sci-
ence/Math Night that is tentatively
scheduled for Thursday, April 28th
from 5:00-7:30 p.m. This family
night is certain to be an evening of
inquiry, discovery, and fun with
hands-on science and math experi-
ments and activities! Mark these
two dates on your calendar and plan
to attend these family, fun-filled
events. See you there!
SPECIAL NEEDS
Do you know a child with
special needs? We want
to be sure that every
child who has a disability receives
the help he or she needs. We want to
be sure that no child is overlooked.
Everyone in the community who is
concerned with the welfare of chil-
dren may participate in the Child
Find process. The Child Find pro-
gram accepts referrals and screens
children who may have a disability.
The child is then referred to an ap-
propriate educational facility for
evaluation or services. This assess-
ment is provided at no cost to the
parent. A referral to Child Find may
be made by a parent or by any per-
son concerned about a child. Parent
involvement and agreement is ob-
tained prior to any further action.
Information is confidential and the
privacy of children and parents is
protected.
Special education services and pro-
grams are available in Tulare Coun-
ty for children from birth to 21 years
of age who have a disability. If you
know of a child who has
one or more of the follow-
ing disabilities (or you
suspect a child has a disa-
bility) please let us know.
autism
blindness or vision impairment
deafness or hearing impairment
developmental disability (mental retardation)
learning disability
physical or orthopedic disability

FOOD BASKETS
Wow! 75 food baskets were given to
needy families from SUESD in De-
cember. The elementary and middle
schools PTO's and many community
members graciously donated supplies
and money to make each basket full of
healthy food items. This huge event
would never have become a reality
without the help of the Eighth grade
class, Builders Club, The United Way
and our community volunteers.
Thanks to all who made this event a
great success!!
NUTRITIOUS FOOD
Diets rich in fruits and vegetables may lower
the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.
Fruits and vegetables provide essential vita-
mins and minerals, fiber, and other sub-
stances that are important for good health.
Most fruits and vegetables are filling and
naturally low in fat and calories. Leave the
high-fat, high-sugar snack foods at the store.
Serve child-sized portions.

ALIMENTOS NUTRITIVOS
Dietas ricas en frutas y verduras
pueden disminuir el riesgo de cáncer y
otras enfermedades crónicas. Frutas y
verduras proporcionan vitaminas esen-
ciales y minerales, fibra y otras sus-
tancias que son importantes para una
buena salud.

comunidad.

NECESIDADES ESPECIALES

LCFF & LCAP
Hace unos años, el estado ha
cambiado la forma en que
los fondos de las escuelas.
Strathmore recibe fondos
adicionales para apoyar a los
estudiantes en base a la fórmula del
Estado. Como parte de los requisitos
para esta financiación, se desarrolla un
Plan de Responsabilidad Local Control
(LCAP), que identifica cómo vamos a
apoyar y enriquecer nuestro aprendizaje
y experiencias de los estudiantes. He-
mos utilizado estos fondos para capaci-
tar a nuestros maestros, aumentar el
tiempo de instrucción en las salas de
clase, agregar asistentes de instrucción
y custodios, proveer traductores para
eventos para los padres, la compra de
más libros de la biblioteca, agregar
equipos (Chromebooks) para todos los
estudiantes en los grados 2-8 en su
clase, proporcionar actividades de enri-
quecimiento académico y actividades
después de clases (con transporte esco-
lar), así como otras cosas.
Ahora estamos entrando en nuestro
tercer año de este plan. Uno de los com-
ponentes clave de este plan
es tener padres, junto con
otros grupos de interés,
participar en todo el proceso.
Al repasar lo que hemos
hecho y planificar para el futuro, quere-
mos animaros a participar y dar su
opinión sobre lo que podemos hacer para
seguir mejorando la educación de su
hijo. Usted puede hacer esto al asistir a
las reuniones de padres (ELAC/DELAC,
Consejo Escolar, GATE/DAC, PTO) y
