About Strategic Management Application

The Strategic Management Application (SMA) provides the strategic planning functionality of strategic planning, budgeting and performance management (SPPM). The tool facilitates the creation and maintenance of strategic and programmatic plans, as well as the programmatic aspects of all projects such as: project log frames. SMA hosts all applicable strategies of the organization and individual organizational entities, allowing a bird’s eye view of strategic management. It provides mandatory programmatic frameworks required per established budgetary processes and procedures such as: Annual Peacekeeping Result based budget frameworks and Annual Programme Plan, formerly known as the Biennial Strategic Framework. It also enables the organization's strategic plans and frameworks to link to objectives, outcomes, outputs, projects, and other deliverables.

About this Course Guide

The purpose of this Corse Guide is to supplement the Strategic Planning for Annual Peacekeeping

Budget - Approving an Annual Peacekeeping Framework course, and to detail the steps required to

complete the following activities:

• Review an Annual Peacekeeping Framework.

• Approve an Annual Peacekeeping Framework

About Role and Responsibility

There are two different roles available in the strategic management application: SMA Planner and SMA Approver. The SMA Planner performs the following functions:

• Accesses, the SMA Strategy Definition Application

• Creates and maintains strategic and programmatic plans

• Creates the project log frames for transmission to SAP PPM Also note that the SMA Planner roles are entity-based. Users can only create and maintain SMA data for entities for which they are provisioned. They can maintain all SMA data for their respective entities without restrictions and may be provisioned for multiple entities The SMA Approver performs the following functions:

• Accesses the SMA Approval application.

• Reviews, approves or returns strategies submitted from the Strategy Definition Application

Note: “Approval” is meant generically as a workflow step. Moreover, approval levels are defined by entity and strategy types. Up to four approval levels are available per entity and strategy type.

Dependency

Strategies submitted for review or approval generate automated notification emails sent to the Approver, alerting that tasks are waiting for action in the workflow. The message contains the Strategy name, providing a link to open the Strategy Management application directly.

1. On the Approver launchpad Click on Strategy Approval.

The value indicated on the tile indicates the number of workflow tasks pending for the Approver.

Note: the screen displays as many tabs as there are Components in the specific Strategy.

3. Click on Details button to see the few fields contained in the Details tab of the Strategy Definition.

The tabs will provide a means of navigating to the respective section of the strategy or one of its components.

Open a Strategy Open Strategy allows the approver to view the strategy directly in SMA. Once there the approver can navigate back to the approval app to complete all workflow tasks.

1. Click on Open strategy to reopen a strategy pending approval.

4. The approved strategy is no longer listed in the left inside panel. If this is the last approval defined in the workflow, the strategy status will be set to Approved, otherwise, the workflow will proceed to the next approval level, and the Approver or Approvers at that level will be notified by email.
