Introduction to Strategic Partnership

Strategic - defined as relating to the identification of long-term or overall aims Partnership - is defined as a legal contract entered into by two or more persons in which each agrees to furnish a part of the capital and labor for a business enterprise, and by which each shares a fixed proportion of profits and losses

SP - formal association between 2 companies by where they agree to work together and give their commitment in order to achieve a mutual goal and objectives for a long-term period

Background of YouthSpark Program

Announced on 20th October 2012 by Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer

Initiative to create opportunities for over 300 million youth over the next 3 years around the world between partnership of Microsoft and non-profit organizations, government and business organization (education, employment, entrepreneurship etc.)

The number of unemployment among youth in Malaysia as at December 2012 was 343,000 people.

With MoYS partnership in this program, it is now a shared objective to reduce the number of unemployment and create working opportunities for the youth even though Microsoft YouthSpark focuses on youth below 24 years old.

STRENGTH WEAKNESS

• Total investment $500 million over three years

- beneficial to 300 million youth around the world including Malaysia

- reducing the financial of MoYS

• Various kind of programs offered in developing youth

• Enhance the organization reputation - new opportunities were created for 103 million of youth in more than 100 countries in the first year including from Malaysia

• The program timeline - from October 2013 until the first due

date which is National Youth Day in May 2014 is short

Opportunities Threat / Challenge

• High impact towards public especially youth in Malaysia- Malaysia is not standing alone

in identifying a growing gap between the skills of unemployed workers and the skills required in performing the jobs

- Example : Microsoft Internship Program

• A mechanism in achieving the Vision 2020

- YouthSpark Stars product around the world where they managed to boost their capabilities

• It is a self-initiated program

• Reaching out to the people in the rural areas is hard

CONCLUSIONMicrosoft YouthSpark, since the first announcement in 2012 had created lots of opportunities for youth from all around the world. The partnership developed between MOYS and Microsoft benefited many parties as they focused the program on youth developments and enhancement of their future.
