The demand for homeland security equipment and services will be driven by security threats: terrorism, illegal border infiltration, piracy, drug trafficking, cyber crime and warfare, and the need to protect critical infrastructure. A global market that could reach a value of $2595 billion dollars will be dominated by Asian Pacific countries. China will spend an incredible 50% of this, far exceeding its Defense spending.

In all these areas, SSI – Security Solutions International is poised to play a vital role as one of the most experienced brands in homeland security in the USA. For either a US company looking at these markets, or for companies in these markets looking at the US, Security Solutions International offers the perfect partnership on which to build.

Many companies today offer single products and solutions. Companies during this coming decade are likely to consolidate and offer a portfolio of options under one roof.

excellent training rePutation bringS recognition aS exPertS in homeland SecurityThese programs have distinguished SSI and created a first class reputation for providing training by experts who are not academic but hands-on, having been involved in operations with Intelligence, Counter Intelligence, Personal protection, Maritime security, Special Response Units, Counter Terror Units, and incident management including disasters.

The company is viewed by US agencies as an expert in the field of security. This means that SSI training programs, in many cases based on military operations experts, are easily transported to the important defense sector across the globe. Many military personnel have either trained with SSI, or used SSI media.

Hello from Georgia!

I came away from that trip with a new appreciation for how the Israelis deal with the threat of terrorism with regard to infrastructure protection, police operations, tactical shooting, defensive tactics and overall security operations. In my opinion, they are the best in the world at what they do. They do not sit back and wait for the attacks to happen… they are very proactive and take the fight to the enemy. In fact, I was able to bring some of that material back and integrate it into some of the advanced counterterrorism training we conduct here at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).

Henry and Sol arranged access for us to some of the most sensitive sites and people in Israel, including the Knesset (Israeli Parliament building), the Port of Haifa (this is the city repeatedly attacked during the last war with Hezbollah), a nuclear power plant, etc. The caliber of guest speakers was exceptional and included high-ranking police executives, politicians and Israeli Special Operations types. In fact, our bodyguards (yes, we had our own security team during the trip) were former ISA special operators.

international beSt PracticeS training createS relationShiPSThe company developed a specialized training program abroad that brought the best practices of international agencies to the knowledge of US First Responders. This program, founded in 2005, has taken many agency representatives to Israel. Many jurisdictions changed their security policies as a result of sending representatives to this program. Many of the people who were sent have become leaders in the field of US Homeland Security. This means important relationships for the strategic partner that would take years to develop at the cost of millions of dollars.

In addition, SSI has trained Chinese delegations, members of Guam’s police force, Embassy personnel from Europe, Saipan’s special operators and many more.

First class, opt-in list of First Responders developed over 10 years leads to entry into the publishing field.

“I have found SSI to be an invaluable resource for help in bringing our products to the Homeland Security market. The company is not just a magazine publisher but an established training company and a media company. They know their market and customers and, more importantly, the customers know them. With SSI’s help, I can rest assured that our products reach their target audience. From demos at their training events to ads in their magazine, SSI provides the additional reach we need. I enjoy working with them and appreciate their professionalism”.

Karen Lynch, director of marketing, energizer corporation

“The training in Israel is not only interesting from the theoretical side but we saw the practical aspects of the Israeli methods at work. While we were there we saw how rapidly they responded after an unfortunate attack and how in hours they had taken care of the scene and were well into the investigation stage. The level of cooperation and interaction between all the agencies was truly at a level that we can only imagine here.”

With a list of first responders developed over 10 years, and with almost 100,000 who have opted-in to that list, the company began by promoting its own services through the provision of a bi-monthly newsletter. This developed into a print magazine named The Counter Terrorist magazine, (2008), an award-winning publication that goes out in the US and abroad to as many as 25,000 readers. This media effort means that SSI has access to media that is unmatched in both reach and penetration of market that takes place at 3 different levels (Federal, State and Local). Advertising clients include industry giants: Energizer, Ruger, Fisher Scientific, Barrett, DSG Arms and as many as 50 others.

Since a large part of the business of Homeland Security is conducted at the State and Local levels, this is one of the very few resources that enable companies to reach these markets.

manufacturing unique ProductS for the homeland Security SectorIn 2009, SSI began manufacturing unique products for the sector. annual conference comeS to life in 2005In 2005, the company began its annual homeland security conference that is today attended by more than 300 people and sponsored by more than 40 companies who come to hear their peers share knowledge on developments in homeland security.

“SSI has been so good at making a name in the Homeland Security Training arena that they should do extremely well even without their own great training, just by helping older established training companies reach their target audiences.”

comPetitive advantageS

SSI holds several key competitive advantages which result in benefits to the strategic partner looking to expand in this sector or use this as a base for an expansion in a different product/service mix.

• Barriers to entry for competitors: previous performance—With more than 140 different projects undertakenin approximately 1000 jurisdictions since 2003, there isimpressive past performance that forms a natural barrierto entry.

• Official vendors to the US Urban Area Security InitiativeZones: San Francisco, Miami, St. Louis Franklin Countyand more.

• Mixture of media, product and services means that thecompany has a built in marketing advantage. This hasbeen demonstrated with the successful launch of products for other companies.

SaleS and marketing information

Apart from selling its own service/product mix, SSI designs campaigns to sell products for other manufacturers, sometimes under its own label. Here is an example of one campaign:

A manufacturer of high quality footwear and tactical gear came to SSI for help in creating a brand in the USA. The product utilizes US components and is assembled in Mexico.SSI took the product and created a brand for the product along with a development story. SSI was able to get the NTOA seal of approval. The product was advertised in the Counter Terrorist Magazine.

SSI was able to offer distributors of the product a mention in the magazine, which incentivized them to handle the line, knowing that if they did prospective customers would come into the business and buy other products.
