As you may recall, the GTAA, "Needs Assessment Study Pickering Lands: Final Report," March 2011 (12.1.4.3) indicated that the most suitable site layout (esp. for runways) is still the recommendation of the 2004 Draft Plan Report. "The Needs Assessment Study has not re-examined the airport layout that was envisioned in the Draft Plan Report. As a result, the only statement that can be made regarding the potential to provide well planned and designed airport facilities on the Pickering lands, is that no new information has come to light during the course of this study suggesting that the site layout proposed in the Draft Plan Report would not be appropriate." (Needs Assessment, 2011, 12.1.4.3) This is of greater significance for the communities of Whitchurch-Stouffville than any other surrounding communities. The 2004 recommended site layout is still on the Transport Canada website [see map below or link here ]. The approach for one of the three landing strips would be directly above the communities of Ballantrae and Musselman's Lake with planes descending (or ascending) from 535 to 500 metres; the second of three approaches is directly above Gormley and Dickson Hill. The remainder of Stouffville proper is "sandwiched" by these two approaches, and will bear the brunt of the noise, especially in the new housing developments in the south- east corner of town. If Transport Canada plans to map out the footprint for the proposed airport this Spring, the plan will have long-term consequences for development on in the next 15 years. Would you be willing to host a public information session for the communities of Whitchurch-Stouffville to look at site-layout options, and then to advocate with Transport Canada for the best options for our Town?
