“The foreign language can be used to revise and reinforce prior learning, to provide opportunities to revisit earlier learning within a new context, when children might resent doing so in English. In other words, the foreign language can provide the context for a ‘fresh start’, and help to rescue children who might otherwise have been left behind.”
