The Challenge of Leadership: Utilizing Everyone’s Gifts to Revitalize the Church
Tuesday, April 28, 2020 7:00p.m.
Rappe Conference Room at Cathedral Square Registration Fee: Contribution to Jesuit Indian and African Education
Pilgrimage for Our Children's Future Join us Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00p.m. for a thought-provoking presentation by celebrated author and presenter, Chris Lowney, chair of Catholic Health Initiatives, one of America’s largest hospital systems, and author of several books including, Pope Francis: Why He Leads the Way
He Leads and Everyone Leads: How to Revitalize the Catholic Church. Lowney challenges Catholics to turn to the methods of Jesus, as their model in leadership, to revitalize the Church by being entrepreneurial, accountable to one another, committed to service of the poor and marginalized, having hearts transformed through the gift of encounter, and reaching out beyond church doors to the periphery with joy and love. He writes, “A leadership responsibility is inherent in the baptismal promise, and we all show leadership by more intentionally role modeling the way of Jesus and influencing our own families and parishes to serve those in need and to reach out more effectively.” Pg. 164 – Everyone Leads: How to
Revitalize the Catholic Church All are welcome and encouraged to attend this presentation and dialogue. For more information or to register, please contact Sr. Rita Mary Harwood, SND at [email protected] or Judy Liederbach at [email protected] Other Considerations/Questions:
- Can this be used for continuing education credits? - Can there be other collaborating partners (Other Dioceses like Youngstown? Universities
in the Diocese? PLC? Diocesan Catechesis Office? Presbyteral council?) - Can we work with a Catholic Bookstore to secure merchandise from Chris (unless he
brings his own)? - Can the K of C sponsor hospitality, if this is a thing? - Can we encourage parish book studies with his text through my office or the general
Parish Life Secretariat?
Understanding the many different types of communication challenges that affect children, adults and families
is critical for priests, deacons, lay ecclesial ministers and all who help support the work of ministering to God’s
People in order to serve these individuals. Specific types of communication challenges will be reviewed.
Feelings such as frustration, fear and embarrassment that may be associated with these challenges will also
be examined. In addition, the presenter, will provide an “insider’s perspective” into the world of stuttering so
that the audience can gain further insight of the impact of a communication challenge on one’s life. Proper
strategies for engaging and/or talking with others who have challenges with hearing and speaking will be
discussed.
Ministering to Individuals with Speech Challenges
