STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. August 2010

Hello Storm Riders,

It’s that time of year again. This is when we make our annual trek to Six Flags over Texas. I hope you have your room reservations made

and have purchased your park tickets. The least expensive place I’ve found is from Tinker Federal Credit Union. They have tickets for $28 each, which is less than what you pay for a child at the gate. We will be meeting Friday, the 27th of August, at Fort Thun-der at 6:30 PM, and leaving at 7:00 PM. We will probably stop to eat somewhere on the way to the hotel. It should be a blast as usual to ride down together then storm the park the next day and ride home Sunday.

The deadline to sign up for the chapter picnic is August 11th at the chapter meeting. Sunday, August 22 we will head for Red Rock Canyon State Park for a fun outdoor day. We will be hosting the Southwest Chapter, so maybe we can get a little competition go-ing with the games. The picnic is free to chapter members. We only ask that you reserve your spot with a ten-dollar deposit per person. This will be refunded when you show up at the picnic.

We will be having burgers and dogs with all the trimmings.

If you haven’t noticed there has been a lot of roofing going on lately. This means that there is a lot of old roofing being hauled off to the dump. Nails are being dropped onto the streets while this debris is being hauled away. So you should check your tires for nails each time you are getting ready to leave home. The easi-est way is for another person to watch your tires while you roll the bike forwards or backwards making at least one full turn of the tire. If you have to do it yourself move the bike just a little bit then check each tire where you can see it before rolling it again for the next area. I was lucky a couple of rides ago and someone saw a nail sticking out of my tire right before we were leaving on a ride. The guys at Fort Thunder were on the ball, getting me fixed up in record time with a new tire thanks to the VIP service.

That’s all I have for now.

See you on the next ride!

Road Captains: Rick Marinelli and Brad Nelson ran sweep.

How many went: 7 bikes with 10 people.

Weather: H-O-T.

Menu favorites: Pizza and Sandwiches

Worth a return trip: Yes, absolutely: very friendly wait staff and very good food.

Remarks: Three new members, Mel and Cheryl Loyd and Mike Beaslee, came along for their first dinner ride. We want to welcome them to our chapter.

Dinner Ride to Happy Days Diner, Paul’s Valley, June 27

We met at Fort Thunder at 11 a.m. Everyone was eager to ride. Unsure if it was going to rain or not, we pulled out at about 11:30.

We rode west on 4th to I44, then south on I44 to Hwy 62 and on to Blanchard. There we picked up hw76 south to Lindsay, then turned east on 19 to Paul’s Val-ley.

There were 23 bikes, 29 people, and 1 cage. We were on the lookout all the way, and we got lucky and didn’t run into any bad weather.

It’s a good thing somebody spotted the nail in Ira’s back tire. He might have been stranded on the road. In-stead, he was able to leave his bike at Fort Thunder. They gave him a loaner for the ride, so all was well.

The menu was interesting. The ‘Big Bopper’ looked good, but was too much for me. Most of the group got regular burgers, and I heard several deserts

being ordered.

The manager passed out ball point pens to everyone, which was very kind of him. So here’s hoping we get to go back sometime.

For the “Million Mile Monday” event we had a great turnout of chapter members. Coming around that corner in Okarche, be-fore we even got to Eischen’s, you could smell the chicken! It had been awhile since

we had eaten there, but it was still as good as I remember. Rick Marinelli said when he used to live there; the chickens were only $3! I guess times have changed, they are $12 now. Even though it had been raining most of the week, we still had 14 members brave the rain and ride over to Eureka Springs, Arkansas last month to ride the curves. I understand it turned out the rain was not a problem at all.. They were able to ride the famous Pig Trail, rode a ferry across Bull Shoals Lake and toured a haunted hotel.

Even though the weather is hot, we still enjoy riding throughout the summer. We do drink lots more water, and take more fre-quent rest stops.

If you like chicken, you won’t want to miss our Friday night ride this month. It will be to Chubby’s in Yukon. I hear they have tried very hard to rival that famous restaurant in Okarche. Meet at Fort Thunder August 6 at 6:30, leaving at 7 p.m.

August 22 is our Annual Chapter picnic. It will be held at Red Rock Canyon State Park. We will be cooking out, playing games and enjoying each other’s company. Special guests will be members of the Southwest H.O.G. chapter.

August 27-29 is the Annual Six Flags Over Texas trip. Ira Frame will be leading this ride. I understand he and Veron-ica have made this trip many times, hence his “Rooster” name “Six Flags”. Plan to join him and many others for this trip. I am sure it will be lots of fun!

For those of you that have requested longer rides, on Septem-ber 12, we are riding to Krebs, OK, for Pete’s Place and their famous family style Italian food. We gather at 11:30 and leave at 12 from Fort Thunder H-D.

Until next time, ride safe and keep cool! Brenda

STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. August 2010

Dinner Ride to Eischen’s, Million Mile Monday, June 28

Congratulations to Mr. Lynn McCumber of Blanchard, Oklahoma for winning the quilt that was given away on July 3rd.

My sincere thanks goes out to all who helped with selling tickets, and those who

contributed to the bake and craft sales. We raised over $3000 for our Chapter for this year. We will have another quilt next January.

Our latest project is selling tickets on a quilt for cancer research. It was made by Pat Avery of Midwest City, and will be given away on October 30th at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You need to drop by Fort Thunder H-D during Thursday evening bike night or any Satur-day from now until October 30, and buy your tickets to help this worthy cause. We are also having a bake and craft sale at the Fort on Sept 11th, 2010. If you can bake or make something for this sale, bring it by the Fort by 9:30am on Sept 11th.

All the money raised from the cancer quilt and the bake and craft shows will be going to the Integris Cancer Institute of Oklahoma for Research.

If anyone can work any Saturday from now until Oct. 30th, 2010, it would be greatly appreciated. Please call, email, or text me anytime. We have a lot going on at the Fort and they need all the support we can give.

Our next LOH meet-ing will be August 5th at 6:15pm at Fort Thunder H-D up-stairs in the chapter room.

Best Wishes and Happy Riding.

STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. August 2010

Eureka Springs Overnighter, July 9 — 11 Once upon a time in a village called Moore, a great need was felt among us Storm Riders to visit a hamlet called Eureka Springs. We donned our rain gear, (after all, we ARE Storm Riders) headed north on I-35, hit the turnpike, and then rode over to Tulsa, where we stopped for a well-deserved rest, and a nice lunch at the Hard Rock Casino. After snapping a few photos, we got back on our steeds and headed east on Hwy 412, making our way into Arkansas. We managed to miss most of the rain, except for a slight downpour outside Oklahoma City.

The beautiful, twisting high-way into Eureka Springs gave us a

bit of a tease for the thrills we would enjoy the next two days. Our hotel welcomed us with our name on their marquee, and we spent the evening at the pool, loosening up after the ride.

Saturday Brad led some of us on a wonderful ride called Peel’s Ferry Trail, which took us on a ferry crossing the Bull Shoals. Who said Harleys don’t float? That evening we had fantastic Italian food at Ermilios, and visited the Crescent Hotel, which is said to be haunted. It was a good time, and some of us definitely felt something strange was going on.

The next morning we rode the Pig Trail down to I-40. ( awesome!!!) and then trekked on home-ward. My thanks to Brad Nelson for running sweep. It was a wonderful ride with outstanding people, who allowed me to lead them wayward! I hope they let me do it again…...Ray Kubiszewski, aka Lancelot
