    ACTIVITY

    1. Arrange for students to work in pairs. Distribute the activity sheets. Explain that the sentenceson the activity sheets tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood in four different languages. Readthe first sentence of the story in English (Activity Sheet A). Point out the word PIE. Ask studentsto find the word in French (GALETTE), in Spanish (PIE), and in Japanese (PIE). Continue insimilar manner with the remaining sentences of the story.

    2. Suggest that student pairs make storybooks. Each pair can select a language for the book,or they can mix languages (Page 1 in English, Page 2 in French, Page 3 in Spanish, etc.).

    3. Assist student pairs as needed to assemble and illustrate their storybooks:

    Make one page at a time. Cut out text forthe page and glue it in place at the bottomof a 6 x 10 sheet of drawing paper.

    Draw a picture to illustrate the page. If desired,cut out and glue the activity sheet illustrationin place as a part of your picture.

    After completing all six pages, fold a sheetof construction paper in half to make a frontand back cover for your book.

    Ask your teacher to staple the book together.

    4. Allow time for students to look at each othersbooks and to listen at computers to the storiesin various languages.
