The Queensland Police Service Active Armed Offender and Tactical First Aid Projects

• In 2016, the QPS implements Active Armed Offender Training to
Operational Skill and Tactics Training.
Active Armed Offender Project
• Over 1400 dynamic interactive scenarios were conducted with Simunition.
• Approximately 260 IED’s were detonation/activated.
• A total of 26 instructor courses were run consecutively.
• Over 540 AAO Instructors from all regions were qualified.
• Participants were exposed to a 1 hours “Man Down” lesson.
• Participant surveys provided significant data requesting further specific
first aid training.
AAO lessons learned
• Ethical requirement to provide aid to the those effected.
• Need to break the stall.

February - Directive was received to commence TFAT.
February - Curriculum research and development phase was commenced
- Clinical Governance – Trauma Services Unit RBWH
March - Research and development phase for TFAK equipment.
April - Formulation of 2 tiers of training - Instructor Training Course and User
Course
April to June - 400 Officers to be Training to instructor level by 30 June 2017.
July 2017 – June 2018 - All Operational Queensland Police Officers to be
trained in TFA.

Officer training is to focus on Casualty and also include Self Aid
utilising wound avatar. Scenario training will be used to assess the
Officers ability to successfully apply the techniques under stress in
simulated hostile environments.
