    FROM THE OFFICE

    Visitors To Our School

For the safety of our students we would appreciate that all visitors (including parents picking up children) please check in at the office. Once you have checked in we will either call your child to the office or send you to your child’s class to pick them up. This system allows us to limit the traffic in our halls as well as knowing who is in our building. Our staff is very good at buzzing the office to let us know if an unfamiliar person is in the building. If you have checked in we can tell our staff that your child’s mom/dad/uncle etc. is here to pick them up. We thank you in advance for helping us with this request.

Student Drop Offs and Pick Ups

The area in front of our school is a very busy place in the mornings and after school. Our main goal is for the safe arrival and departure of all of our students. We are asking that anyone who does drop off or pick up children please exercise extra caution and due diligence when doing so to ensure a safe arrival or departure for our students. At the end of the day many of our students are excited to be heading home and may not be as careful as they should be. Please keep an eye out for them. The parking lot at the back of the school is also being used as a drop-off location helping to eliminate the congestion in front. A friendly reminder that when school busses are loading and unloading in the lot to the west of the school and their flashing red lights are on, they are not to be passed. As an extra precaution, there should be no vehicular traffic in the lot at any time there are busses in the lot.

    Stony Mountain Gear

The Stony Mountain Gear sale was so popular it is being extended until April 26th. New order forms are on the Stony Mountain School website as well as on the bulletin board by the Of-fice. Sizing samples are in the office.

Day of Pink t-shirts will also be available. Order forms are on the Stony Mountain website.

When the evil Captain Hook captures Wen-dy and the Lost Boys, Peter Pan comes to their rescue. Together with the ticking crocodile, Peter Pan puts Captain Hook in his place and returns the Darling children to their home.

    Boys’ Basketball

On March 13 and 14, our Boys' Basketball team travelled to Stonewall to participate in the Interlake Divisional Basketball tournament. Thanks to the boys from grade 6-8 who joined the basketball team this year. We were small team in numbers but we were dedicated and we worked hard. We played our best games of the season at Divisionals. Good luck to the grade 8 students moving on to SCI and we hope to see the rest of the players return next season. Also thanks to parents who drove to games and came out and supported our team. Mrs. Comte, Mrs. Darragh, Mrs. MacMillan

    Girl’s Basketball

The girls basketball team had a great season. The team finished the regular season with a record of 5-4 (two losses to both Teulon 8 and Stonewall 8) earning them 3rd overall in the nine team league. It also earned them a spot in the competitive pool at the divisional tournament. Never having beat ei-ther Stonewall or Teulon, the team were successful at achieving one of their goals when they beat Stonewall in the round robin portion of the tournament by a score of 17-15. Finishing 2nd in their pool, the team faced Stonewall the following day in the playoff round of the tournament. The girls played fearlessly and the game was a back and forth affair. In the end, the older, more experienced Stone-wall grade 8 team prevailed, with a 19-16 victory. For such a young team, losing by such a close score in the semi-finals was a satisfactory accomplishment. There were too many individual accomplish-ments to mention them all. In the end, each and every athlete on the team got better, became more confident and cognitive, and, hopefully, have developed a fondness of the game of basketball.

Stony Mountain School’s Cross Country Ski Club

Ski instructor Kristen Madsen from the Manitoba Cross-Country Ski Association, came out to give Stony Mountain’s Ski Club an adventurous and educational introductory ski lesson. The weather and snow were perfect, and we are looking forward to hitting the trails next year for another season!
