About North Stonington A Rural Environment with Urban Conveniences

If you’re looking for that hometown feeling, North Stonington is the place to visit, live and/or open a business. Located in Southeastern Connecticut, the town is a rural community of 55 square miles with a population of 5,250 approximately 2,200 residential dwellings and a small commercial base. North Stonington has 4 Working Dairy Farms, a Vineyard, 4 Bed & Breakfasts, 123 cemeteries (dating to 1712), and 8 Churches of various denominations. The town has a K-12 School System with a population of 800 students (2008), a Library, Post Office (zip code 06359), active Grange, Senior Center and Ambulance Association. Its volunteer Fire Company serves the Town from one station located on Route 2. Annually in July, people come from throughout New England to attend North Stonington’s Agricultural Fair sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Company and Grange. It is the first major Connecticut Fair of the season and is followed shortly by the local 4H Fair made up of young local people. Located close to I-95 (exits 92 & 93) bordered by Rhode Island, North Stonington enjoys easy access to New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. It is centered between Boston and New York City. The Town is 36 miles from Green Airport (Providence, RI), 66 miles from Bradley Airport (Hartford, CT), 101 miles from Logan Airport (Boston, MA) and 141 miles from JFK Airport, Queens, NY. Three hospitals serve the Town - Westerly Hospital, Westerly, RI, 7 miles, Lawrence & Memorial at Mystic, CT, 10 miles, and William W. Backus in Norwich, CT, 15 miles. North Stonington is 19 miles from New London, CT Transportation Center which houses Amtrak, Greyhound and car ferries which traverse Long Island Sound to Orient Point, NY, Block and Fisher’s Islands.
